Flemming Street store attacked in daring robbery

Scene from today’s robbery in Road Town.

Reports reaching BVI News indicate that a daring daylight robbery was executed sometime this morning at Aladdin BVI on Flemming Street in Road Town.

It is not immediately clear what was taken during the robbery or how long the ordeal lasted.

Four masked persons were reportedly involved in the incident but it is not clear how many persons were in the store at the time of the robbery.

Amateur video footage showed one of the robbers fully dressed in black wearing white gloves and holding what appeared to be a high-powered firearm while standing guard outside of the store.

Three other men subsequently emerged, all holding weapons and escaping towards a waiting KIA SUV with their takings from the store.

The men reportedly headed west along Main Street and made their escape.

BVI News will bring more details as it becomes available.

Why doesn’t the Police have an Emergency No. similar to their non-emergency “311” number?

RVIPF posted a set of different numbers as though anyone have time to be looking in their contacts for which 5-digit number to dial.

      GOVERNMENT FIX THIS!!

What is wrong with these young people? I just read am article narrated by Eileen Parsons praising Andrew Fahie as a courageous leader who can bring horse racing back to the territory. This man was found guilty in Miami for drug conspiracy. Eileen said he is a courageous leader. Those are the people who our youths look uo to. So those young men are the products of the corrupt, unethical and pervasive leaders that have governed and set the rules and principles in our Nature’s Little Secret. God help us.

These brazen and dangerous thieves need to be caught and put away in a cage where they belong. Hope no one was injured. Imogine that, broad day light and they pull this stunt. Clearly they do not fear law enforcement.

There has to be CCTV footage of their movements. Hope they are quickly apprehended. Somebody needs to drop a dime on these criminals. They earned their tickets to Balsum Ghut. Let’s help them collect their reward.

I don’t feel very safe in Road Town at all. Its armed robbery and what if that idiot had used that gun – could have taken out 50 -100 people in minutes. Where are the police? – they should be on patrol in Road Town.

Wait ’til the international press pick up on the Fahie conviction.

Well done BVI; you’ve made the most of the billions of Government revenue paid in since the 1980s.

It’s your attitude that all criminality comes from overseas that is totally wrong. Fahie, Maynard and politicians before them were corrupt and such attitudes have spread through parts of our BVI society.

MY FAMILY AND I HAVE VISITED THE BVI MANY TIMES AND WE’VE REALLY TRY TO NOT LET THE MEDIA SCARE US WITH THE NEGATIVE NEWS. BUT IF I AM HONEST, WE ARE CONCERN THAT THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE. THIS IS DISSAPOINTING NEWS. WHAT IS SCARY FOR US IS THE FACT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED IN BROARD DAY LIGHT AND IT IS NOT THE FIRST TIME. NOW THINKING OF CANCELING OUR FAMILY VACATION TO THIS ISLAND. THIS IS SAD.

Meanwhile, while my daughter was recently visiting Florida, she walked from the hotel to the mall…..and I begged her to grab and go- not to linger- ever conscious of the mass shooting in the schools ans streets on a weekly basis .

The serial killers were not so much a concern as a concern cause she was with friends and family .

Also, a famous football player was gunned down on that same strip the week before. Maybe it was isolated , or one of the Crack heads living in the alley adjacent to the mall.

I dunno , but I sure did breathe a sigh of relief when she boarded that plane to head back to the BVI.

      Thanks for your submission, though.

Good rebuttal, but howdo you know it’s an American tourist? Now that’s a place I am afraid to visit these days, and it’s not one state, it’s all states. I rent cars when I am there and now pay for the gas because I am afraid to go to gas stations for fear of what’s happening around them.

        • Anonymous says:

Of course there is gun violence in the US. But this article isn’t comparing BVI to the US. It’s describing a crime that happened during the daytime and probably won’t get solved. A crime like this would never not go unsolved anywhere in the US. Daytime robbery seen license plate. This would of been solved the same day in the states, do to technology and cameras.

        • Baje says:

Fair point , but it’s just a reference point .. since we talking bVI tourism . Caribbean : Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica. Scary places most days. Point remains, we all have e increasing challenges, but I will take my chances walking here in told at 2:00 am …. but i can’t think of another Caribbean island where I would be comfortable doing THAT. GOD continues to bless THE BVI – warts and a all. SHANTI

  14. Police Visibility lacking..Ask Pope says:

This nonsense I am hearing about how police could stop robbery without a gun is ridiculous, No matter how much guns robbers have they will never rob a business place in the presence of a uniform Police, Police presence alone is a preventative element, Police handle things differently, they have radios, they can quickly sound and alarm, they don’t need Guns.to get in a shoot out..Then the responding officers will come prepared. Stop making excuses for non Police presence and or lack of visibility. Pope being on the Radio almost every day complaining about the lack of police presence in the city. In the 90’s we had half this amount of police. But you could have seen police every where you turn in the city. Commissioner must take responsibility..

Though not completely unavoidable, this could the results of undefined and unregulated immigration and its policies.

Moreover, the culprits probably came in and left by sea the same day.

Thus, border security must be brought front and center also for scrutiny and upgrades.

But instead, the ones responsible are busy trying to destabilize the country from the top down with political weapons that will eventually render to them the entire economic economy that the forefathers worked so long and hard to build, and what they had no hand in building.

How criminal and needing a COI is that!

  20. We must all do better says:

Why have you used the word “daring” in the headline and article? You’re effectively praising their behaviour and making them out to be some kind of heroes. The language you use in your articles is important, it shouldn’t be condoning actions that put others at risk, and which has likely emotionally damaged those who were in the shop at the time.

  21. Ausar says:

“Business”, the police can’t be everywhere all the time at once!

Someone, somewhere, must have seen these thugs, and their Kia, as they drove by!

But you see, many of you will not report these criminals, and their criminal enterprises, due to the fact, that they are your sons, brothers, nephews, cousins, uncles, and God children, that are involved!

I say, shame on us, the citizenry, for not reporting criminals, and crimes, regardless, of how trivial!

It is we, after all, that appears to be the very cause, of our own calamity!

Let us get about the business of problem solving, with regards to crime, for the sakes of our lives, our economies, and the future of these UK Virgin Islands!

    • Anonymous says:

It’s not the job of the citizens to protect oneself. The idea that the citizens are hiding these criminals is foolish. It’s the job of the Government and the police to make sure it’s citizens are safe.
