Former employee steals dinghy from Moorings, sells it

A 27-year-old man who pleaded guilty to stealing a dinghy from his employers at The Moorings and selling it has been sentenced.

Kasim Harrigan, who is currently unemployed because of the incident, received a six-month prison sentence that has been suspended for one year.

This means he will only spend the six months in prison if he commits another offence within the next 12 months.

“If you even pick up a pin on the road you will serve your sentence,” Magistrate Innocent told the offender.

What happened

The court heard that between November 1 and December 17 last year, Harrigan stole the dinghy and an engine at the company’s Wickham’s Cay ІІ location on Tortola.

The company’s management noticed the missing dinghy and made a report to the Road Town Police Station.

Police subsequently launched an investigation which led them to the missing dinghy and engine in the Baugher’s Bay area of Tortola.

The new owners then pointed police to Harrigan as the man who sold them the vessel.

Harrigan was subsequently arrested and charged for theft.

“I took a chance and I sold it,” the former Moorings employee later told police.
