Francis Lettsome are Inter-Primary champs
Francis Lettsome Primary School emerged victorious at the end of the eagerly anticipated Inter-Primary Schools Track and Field Championships, clinching the title of the best primary school in athletics across the territory.
The school’s triumph was announced at the A.O. Shirley Recreational Grounds at the end of the event held from April 3 to 5.
The meet began with a vibrant opening ceremony and parade, setting the stage for intense competition in events ranging from 300 meters to the four-by-one-hundred-meter relays.
The championships ended with the 200-meter races and the Sprint Medley Relay Finals, leading to the much-awaited declaration of the overall winning school.
Acting Director of Youth and Affairs and Sports, Shaunice Leonard, expressed her satisfaction with the event’s success, praising the remarkable talent displayed by the young athletes. Leonard emphasised the championship’s role in fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among the youth while highlighting its significance in promoting sports and healthy competition.
The event also honoured individual excellence with awards for Division Champions in each age group and the prestigious Victor and Victrix Ludorum titles for the highest-scoring boy and girl across different divisions.
Among the standout performers were Kaera Creque (Robinson O’Neal Memorial) and Maykasha Hypolyte (Ebenezer Thomas), who both secured the Victrix Ludorum title. Ackeel Boreland of Ivan Dawson Primary was awarded the Victor Ludorum.
Francis Lettsome’s achievement was bolstered by several individual performances throughout the competition, including Jonathon Gordon, who led the male under-9 division with an impressive 20 points, and Cliffon Logan who dominated the male under-11 division, amassing 24 points for the school. D’Karai Prescott made his mark in the male under-13 division, also securing 24 points.
In the male 13-plus division, Boreland of Ivan Dawson Primary showcased his athletic prowess by scoring a remarkable 30 points.
The female athletes were equally commendable in their performances, with Odia Lettsome of Willard Wheatley capturing the spotlight in the female under-9 division with 20 points. Meanwhile, Chrisonda Pinnock of Joyce Samuel excelled with 26 points in the female under-11 division.
The competition was also fierce in the female underground -13 division, where Kaeja Creque of Robinson O’Neal Memorial emerged victorious with 30 points. Similarly, Maykasha Hypolyte of Ebenezer Thomas achieved the highest honour in the female 13-plus division, also scoring 30 points.

Now that children from Althea Scatliffe have been scattered to the schools that they should have been attending in the first place, we finally have some balance. What use to happen is 75% of the people from all over the island who work in town use to bring their children to Althea. What we should do is expand some of the schools and not rebuild a big school in the middle of town to add further congestion because the school had sentimental value. But I realize our so called leaders are not smart. They will waste this opportunity to make adjustments.
