Fraser concerned about Governor’s unpaid $44K COI bill

Fraser

Opposition Leader Julian Fraser has expressed concern over an unpaid bill incurred by Governor Rankin during his Commission of Inquiry (COI) appearance late last year.

The Governor had appeared before the COI in November last year to face questions posed by Sir Geoffrey Cox on behalf of the Attorney General.

But according to Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley who was speaking in the House of Assembly (HOA) recently, the Attorney General did not legally represent Governor Rankin as she should have.

He explained that private legal representation was provided by the government in consultation with the Attorney General and the costs for this amounted to $44,220.

Dr Wheatley told the HOA that the bill has not yet been paid and explained that the contract is currently being vetted before the payment can be processed.

Governor Rankin recently stated the cost was rightly met by the government, as it should have been, because the representation was authorised specifically by the Attorney General.

Meanwhile, Fraser also questioned the Premier about whose interest the Governor would have served during his appearance for questioning before the COI given that he represents the United Kingdom as Governor of the territory.

In response, Dr Wheatley said he didn’t feel it was his role to discern whose interest the Governor was serving when he appeared before the COI.

“I would leave the [HOA] member (Fraser) and others to come to their own conclusion about that,” Dr Wheatley stated.

I am worried by the $1.4 million he allegedly took or gave to his relatives and cronies supposedly to build a dock wall at Sea Cows Bay.

Fraser is another who should be concerned about his future.

This dinosaur has zero relevance in today’s BVI, living in the past when you were simply ignored … In this socially connected world one won’t be able to pass out envelopes, refrigerators, etc., to secretly buy votes, and will have to run with actual ideas for advancing the Territory in a connected world .. We can only hope you will come to your senses and just retire!!

Slow Wande and the rest of these d**p witted ppl we have in leadership only now figuring out the role of the AG. They had her up and down defending BS ie their crazy interpretation that the COI was a hearing. This is after spending over 11 million ie the reported figure of 8 mil plus the GBP 3 mil the uk spent dealing with the stupid position that this government and past government officials took (the UK will pass that GBP 3 mil on to us wait for it) plus this 40k of the governors legal counsel (the AG was conflicted given the government’s position).

Wait for it Run dem out. ….. not long before they be saying that you should go and be long gone back where you came from. Doesn’t always work when they say that to other VIslanders though. You right about the awful culture that people defend of racism, drugs, lawlessness and total unaccountability the elites like to hide behind. Why people vote for the likes of Fraser that even though he should understand all this he still cannot see the difference between the Governors approved expenditure and the previous failed speakers lack of approval from the AG.

So he has a problem with $ 44,000 but not the 8 Million he and his Cronies spent and the 1 Million for his Sea Cows Bay Harbour project. You just cannot make that up – we will be the next NETFLIX series.
