Fraser regrets one aspect of Eileene Parsons’ legacy
While hailing the late Eileene Parsons as a true patriot, Deputy Premier Julian Fraser said he wishes her legacy also included stronger advocacy for greater self-determination for the territory.
“There’s one thing I wished she had done. And given her stature, it would’ve gone a long way — us in our quest for self-determination. I wish she had lent her voice to the struggles that this territory has gone through, the distance we have travelled in our success to culminate into a voice like hers speaking towards self-determination,” Fraser expressed during a special sitting of the House of Assembly, where leaders paid tribute to the former government minister.
Fraser also noted that Parsons’s influence could have added to the legacy of another Virgin Islands patriot, Theodolph Faulkner, who played a pivotal role in restoring the local legislature 75 years ago.
However, Fraser said it’s not too late to associate Parsons’s legacy with the push for political advancement. He encouraged those who were mentored or inspired by her to use their voices to continue that mission.
“Even though she hasn’t said or done it, those of you who cherish and admire her as much as you did can make it part of her legacy by advocating along those lines,” Fraser said.
Parsons, who passed away on June 22, is still being widely celebrated for the indelible mark she left on the Virgin Islands in the areas of politics, sports, and the performing arts.
In recent years, she also became a passionate advocate for horse racing, a sport that has since disappeared from the Virgin Islands due to an impasse over the use of the venue that once hosted those events.
In the meantime, the official funeral service for the late former legislator will be held at 8am on Thursday, July 17 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town. Her body will lie in state at the House of Assembly Chambers on Wednesday, July 16, when members of the public will be able to pay their last respects between 11am and 5pm.

But she didn’t. She did not advocate for Independence now as she realised that was not the best thing for the people.
She worked for the people not for self like the politicians and elites that keep pushing for Independence.
These politicians and elites that continue to try and find ways to bypass and sideline the people so they can get what they want.
No controls over corruption and abuse of power.
“Our” quest means your quest as you do not have the will of the people.
Now you want to change her histoical legacy to support you deranged push for INdependence.
You do her memory, the VI and yourself a disservice in your pursuit of Independence and Power.
It is that Frazer that you and others crave and which Honourable people like Mrs. P new was the greatest danger to the people of the VI.
She was a true VI patriot. Not a political vulture waiting for the opportunity to pick over the remains of a dead carcass.
I think this comment by Fraser is in such poor taste. Celebrate the woman’s legacy not criticize what she did or didn’t say or do. Gezzzzz man!!!!
If Eileene Parsons had wanted to be a stronger advocate for greater self-determination, I am sure she would have been.
I consider it questionable to add an assumption to a person’s legacy when they are no longer around to say yah or nah.
U advocate now Fraser. What you are waiting for. You should have kept your dam mouth shut.
U advocate now Fraser. What TU waiting for? U should have kept your dam mouth shut.
Sometimes its better to stay quiet and let people think that you are an Idiot than to open your Mouth and confirm what people think of you. No Pun Intended. Sir, You are one of a few Legislators that I have the utmost respect for. I always say to others that You were one of the Best Labour Minister this Territory has had. None of You and I repeat, None of you can walk in the Late Hon. Eileene Lucia Parson’s Shoes. She was a well-spoken, Intelligent, Hardworking, True Patriotic Daughter of Virgin Islands Soil. Mrs. Parson would have NEVER advocated for Self-determination knowing first-hand what this Territory is currently going through. Thousands, Millions, Billions missing without Accountability, Transparency, No One to answer to and YOU Sir have the Gonads to make such a Comment? Maybe its the Kool-aid they gave you to Drink because some Months ago no such Nonsense was coming from your Lips. When the Government which you are a Part of begin to formulate and Implement Realist Plans of your own with the inclusion of the People and STOP using Decades old Plans that no longer meet the needs of this Territory, Then we might listen to you. I make no apology in saying All Ministries or the majority of Ministries are working with Decades old Plans. None of their own. One can Name each Ministry and ask about their Plan. NONE!!!! and you here talking about Self-Determination? Where? When? How? Why? Sir, I continue to have the utmost Respect for you But please you don’t have to make a Comment everyday. No Pun Intended.
tek care she don’t haunt you straight to the barber shop
Persons who do catch unimaginable hell. Y’all be acting like you don’t know what our story is. This is the real hypocrisy and its what we celebrate. People know what time it is y’all just getting played.
What has he done?
The answer: ZILCH.
And pray tell what will be written and said about YOU Mr. Frazer when your time on this earth has ended? I dare say that it will not be a fraction of the good things said about Mrs. P. Your legacy has been already written and it is one of selfishness and one of the architects of many failures in the BVI.
Go take your Geritol and get back to your slumber.
You cant walk and will never fit in Fraser shoes
That made me laugh about walking in his tiny, shoes! I see my comment mashed your corn and got your belly churning. I said it. His legacy will be told of how he selfishly destroyed the 3rd district and did nothing tangible for his constituents and the country. Now go take some Imodium for that!
To those who dont want to get out from under the colonial boot, get off the plantation then.
Further, the colonials, UKers, and neocons need to stop pushing the stay an undefined person/entity under the union jack on the media.
While the peoples future remain a second to third class without a nation/country to call their own.
IS EXPOSING HIS XENOPHOBIC IGNORANCE / HOW LONG HAS HE BEEN IN POLITICS ❓️ WHAT HAS HE ACHIEVED IN IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE COUNTRY ❓️ NOW HE TRYING TO ‘ USE THE LADY TO RIDE ON / SHOW SOME RESPECT AND LET THE LADY NE IN PEACE AS SHE RIGHTLY RECIEVES WHATEVER GLORY SHE DESERVES / YOU WERE NEVER IN HER CLASS / NUMBER ONE , YOU DON’T HAVE ANY INTEGRITY AND WE ALL KNOW THAT EXCEPT YOU ( GO BACK O6 THE POLE AND RESUME YOU SCARECROW POSITION

And while you are it the $80,000.00 tax payers money you spend on that well, please refurbish it and not have workmen using the area bending steel there. Come for me now. I will be on the Sunday Morning well.
6th latter of the alphabet Fraser.
Looks like the kool-aid made him throw out this talk of absolute fraught. Which flavour kool-aid will make him get a decent hair cut? THAT is the question. Anybody rocking a hairstyle like that cannot be trusted! It just isn’t right! This is scary.
I have been following horse race all of my life. I heard from the Thomas family that the government leased the track for 99 years and the Thomas family is currently being paid for leasing the property to the government. If they are being paid why should they be in any hurry to come to an agreement with the government for the re-opening of the race track. I find that to be a one sided bargain. The government has no leverage if they are already paying them. I hope the government take this matter more serious and do as Honourable Eileene Parson suggested.

What did she suggest?
