Free shuttles to 41 locations! Park & Ride takes effect June 30

Residents will be able to taxi to 41 locations/designated stops in and around Road Town free of charge with government’s Park & Ride initiative which is set to officially kick off on June 30.

The service will be offered to residents Monday to Friday from 6 am to 6 pm and a shuttle will leave the various designated standpoints every 15 minutes.

There will be two routes for the convenience of residents — a ‘yellow route’ and a ‘green route’.

The yellow route has 15 designated stops and commences from the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital. It will make stops at locations such as the Pusser’s Parking Lot, the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, the entrance to Purcell, OneMart’s parking lot, and Delta Gas Station in Pasea.

It will also make stops in the vicinity of The Moorings, the Road Town Festival Grounds, Mid-Town Restaurant, Her Majesty’s Prison Museum on Main Street, among other locations before culminating at its starting point.

In the meantime, the ‘green route’ has 26 designated stops and commences at the Festival Grounds. The route has designated stops at Bobby’s Supermarket, Banco Popular, the pier park, Crafts Alive, RiteWay in Road Reef, Slaney’s roundabout, the new Market Square/Fire Headquarters, and other stops in between before returning to the Festival Grounds.

Free parking at two primary locations

Minister of Transportation, Kye Rymer said motorists will be allowed free parking at the Festival Grounds next to the Sugar Works Museum or in the parking lot near the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital.

“Health and safety measures will be maintained including wearing of masks by patrons. The park and ride shuttle service is a part of efforts by the Government of the Virgin Islands to create a pedestrian-friendly Road Town,” Rymer stated.

He said the initiative is being offered as a COVID-19 economic stimulus package to taxi operators who will be driving the respective shuttle buses.

The value of the taxi stimulus is one million dollars.

  2. One Million says:

Taxi drivers get ONE MILLION US DOLLARS and we get to park up our car, wait for a ride, wait for a ride back to our cars, transfer all packages ourselves from vehicle to vehicle, mix with other people, no social distancing, no disinfecting of surfaces, standing around waiting in the heat and Sahara Dust storm, and hopefully rain, if it ever rains again, in the BVI.

Wow, ONE MILLION US DOLLARS to the taxi guys, for me to be grossly inconvenienced.. Meanwhile I lost my job to Covid19 and all I got was a lovely few bags of groceries.

Great Idea – it’s time has come- particularly in advance of hurricane season. It needs more thought-

Are zebra crossings being put in from the Delta station to Pasea? Will there be a gate or opening in the fence into Pasea?

Has pedestrian traffic and waiting space been developed for each stop?

People won’t use this if it isn’t planned to work and our community needs this to work.
