Being a student leader was a major inspiration for Brandon Kartic to become the top male student at St Georges Secondary School where he served as deputy head boy.
“It’s a responsibility, so you have to be an example to the young students. That’s my motivation to work harder. I wanted to be a role model to them,” said Kartic, who received the second highest grade point average (GPA) in the school this year.
He scored a 3.67 Grade Point Average behind his female classmate, Chris-Tiann Roberts, who scored 4.0 .
The 16-year-old said his formula for success is hard work.
“I had many late nights and early mornings; my classmates did as well. If you ask any successful person, they will tell you the same thing. If you work hard, it will pay off in the end,” Kartic said.
While he spoke with BVI News Online, Kartic used the opportunity to express gratitude to the persons who have pushed him to academic achievement.
“I’d like to thank all the teachers; all my friends,” he said. “I just really met some amazing people on this high school journey, and I’d like to thank them all.”
The youngster, who has a love for animals, wants to become a veterinarian.
He pursued the sciences at the privately-owed secondary school in a bid to actualise his ambition.
Kartic sat nine Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) subjects this year. They are: Biology, Human and Social Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Information Technology, and Spanish.
“I feel strong. I feel like I did great in most of them,” noted Kartic, who is keen on making his parents proud.
