Full transportation organised for residents across BVI to attend state funeral of RT O’Neal

Full transportation has been organised to accommodate residents from across the territory who wish to attend the state viewing and state funeral of the late Ralph T O’Neal.

For the days allotted to viewing the former Premier’s body — which will lye in state at the House of Assembly Chambers — residents from Anegada and Virgin Gorda will meet on the same ferry to travel to Tortola.

“On Monday, December 9 and Tuesday, December 10, the chartered vessel Sea Express 1 will depart Anegada at 8 am for Virgin Gorda. The vessel will then leave Virgin Gorda at 9:30 am for Road Town, Tortola; returning at 4 pm,” a government media release on the subject stated.

It further explained that residents of Jost Van Dyke will be using a separate ferry service to travel to Tortola on those days.

“The New Horizon vessel will leave Jost Van Dyke at 9 am bound for West End, Tortola where ground transportation will be provided to the House of Assembly Hall for the viewing. The vessel will return to Jost Van Dyke at 4 pm”

Ferry times for day of the suneral service to Tortola

On Wednesday, December 11 — the date of the funeral — the ferry services will be leaving each of the sister islands at an earlier time to travel to Tortola.

“The vessel Sea Express 1 will depart Anegada at 7 am for Virgin Gorda. Sea Express 1 and Speedy’s Ferry will then leave Virgin Gorda at 8 am for Road Town, Tortola. The New Horizon vessel will leave Jost Van Dyke at 7 am.bound for West End, Tortola where ground transportation will be provided to the funeral procession onward.”

After funeral to Virgin Gorda for burial

Following the funeral service at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town, the ferries Sea Express 1Sea Express 2 and Speedy’s, will all depart Road Town for Virgin Gorda at 1:30 pm.

After burial to respective sister islands

Following the burial on Virgin Gorda, residents heading to Anegada will depart at on Sea Express 1 at 4 pm while residents heading to Tortola and Jost Van Dyke will depart on Speedy’s and Sea Express 2 to Road Town also at 4 pm.

After returning to Road Town, Jost Van Dyke residents will be transported by ground to West End for departure to Jost Van Dyke at 6 pm.
