“Get anger management,” Premier tells Cindy Rosan

Lead organiser of the ‘We the People are Fed Up’ motorcade protest, Cindy Rosan-Jones during the event on Saturday, June 12, 2023.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley yesterday recommended anger management for talk show host Cindy Rosan during a heated exchange between the two on Tola Radio’s Morning Braff radio show.

Premier Wheatley joined the Morning Braff show to defend the government and civil servants, amid Governor John Rankin’s latest threat to seek additional powers which would overstep the elected government and allow him to implement good governance reforms recommended by the Commission of Inquiry (COI).

During the discussion, Cindy chided the Premier and his administration for numerous outstanding COI deliverables that have led to the Governor’s threat.

She asked the leader to take accountability for his actions but this only led to heated debate between them.

“Can you tell us the areas where you are lagging? The Governor pointed out three things in particular that you guys are failing to look at — the lack of the Register of Interests, the Whistleblower Act and the Integrity in Public Life Act. And also, if you could clear up this delusion we have that the Governor is in charge of the civil service when the ministers really are?” Rosan asked the Premier after making a much longer statement about the perceived failing of the government.

In response, Premier Wheatley said, “The first thing I need to say is that Cindy, you have a lot of anger inside of you.”

Rosan quickly replied: “I don’t have anger, my dear. I am cool, calm and collected. I just have a lot of passion,” Rosan replied. At this point, the two engaged each other in a debate where they were both talking over each other. The Premier later replied: “For whatever reason, I have become the object of your anger and I would advise you to go speak to somebody about all that anger you have inside of you. I can recommend some people.”

Rosan replied: “You should recommend them for yourself because it looks like you have a whole thing coming up right now.” Shortly after that exchange, the Premier addressed the question as well as others that Rosan asked. However, when responding Rosan’s questions, the Premier addressed Floyd ‘Heritage’ Burnett, seemingly sending a message that he wished not to engage with Rosan.

The Premier also engaged a number of the show’s listeners who had tuned in to hear his plans to stop the governor and the UK from taking over the BVI government.

He urged residents to stand in solidarity with the government despite their varying political views, as any attempt to overstep the locally elected government would not benefit the BVI.

“Despite all those who would want to see us fight against each other and see the governor colonially take over the BVI, let us unite as a strong Virgin Islands people, let’s deal with the issues we have among ourselves and deal with our own people and tell the United Kingdom ‘thanks but no thanks’,” Premier Wheatley stated.

Rosan added: “I would encourage the UK to step in.”

If we keep calling this place the British Virgin Islands (BVI) then the UK will continue to act like we are children and do what they want. The COI was necessary. The reforms are necessary but their is a mission beyond reforms the UK is setting up and we have been blinded for years. Our thinking must shift. Our practices must shift. Our people and government must shift. Their is no real partnership with the UK. Their is an illusion of partnership. It is time for us to wake up.

You are correct Cindy: the expression of passion should not be misconstrued as anger.

I was passionate about the causes I believe in at eighteen, and I remain all the more so today at eighty.

One of those passions being a better way forward for the islands I once called home.

When you are passionate about something how do you carry on? Anyone who’s passionate about something gets an extra hype. Passion is real not craz; and then again only people with real passion gets things done

  12. So childish... says:

Is the premier not embarrassed that he went on a public radio station and behaved like such a child. Cindy’s questions were legitimate and his response was to belittle her personality? It is not only childish, but misogynistic, gaslighting behavior which is usually adopted by those lacking the intelligence to answer the questions put to them. Absolute EMBARASSMENT.

From what I heard during the ballot counting, this lady is very unprofessional and should not be given the chance to represent the people of the bvi. And wanting the UK to take over is a huge leap backwards….

  15. BVI dictionary says:

“Wuk” (w-u-k) means to talk frought, travel like a clown and bawl every now and again.

Example of usage in a sentence – the Premier said to Cindy, “watch me wuk baby”.

  17. Redstorm says:

She does not know passion it contains self control and not body Language and tone of voice that say you are not. Premier is on a lot of stress and she is not going to help as a so call journalist.

Many people were paid to work, but they go to their office running their mouth about things they know , nothing about, and put in minimum hours and collect a pay check. Now it hit the fan of the cheap service most civil servants put in. If she want UK to take over , it might well be so, and a time when she will become very quite quickly. The number of freedom she now exhibits will no longer be, the muzzle will be put on her career.

Things will get tight ,it will not be as usual, so those who asking for the UK to take over , be careful now.
