GOLD! Adaejah Hodge is now the World Under-20 200m champion!

Local sprint prodigy Adaejah Hodge has captured gold in the women’s 200m final at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, on Friday.

The 18-year-old Virgin Islander dominated the finals with a finishing time of 22.74 seconds.

Hodge crossed the line ahead of Australia’s Torrie Lewis, who took silver with a personal best of 22.88 seconds, and Jamaica’s Shanoya Mikalia Douglas, who claimed bronze with a time of 23.10 seconds.

Earlier this week, Hodge also secured a silver medal in the women’s 100m final, finishing behind Jamaica’s Alana Reid.

This brings her total medal count from this year’s World U20 Championships to two. Hodge was also the youngest competitor in the women’s 200m at the Paris Olympic Games earlier in August.

Congratulations! Awesome! She looks stronger every race. In some interesting way, to me she is a combo of TT Terry (leg form) and Shelly-Ann (torso and arms form). I feel if she can steady her torso some during the upright drive phase entering the straight, she’ll shave some time still.

    Cheers!!

  3. Congrats says:

Congratulations, Daej, Daej. We are proud of you and so eager to see you climbing and climbing into an athletic future with such promise. You are impressive, My Girl, and we are all walking around with our chests pushed out for having you represent us so well.

Listen, ahyo, the BVI Flag is being flown in Lima, Peru. We are competing on the world stage and winning. So now all our athletes can believe and know that it is possible. Such promise in these young people. Hon. Premier, please support our athletes and any help the private sector can give will be appreciated as well. Our athletes has tasted success and we have to keep the momentum building. Go BVI. Go, Adaejah; Go, Kyron; Go, Rikkoi; Go, Thad; Go, Teondre; Go, McKenzie and so many others. I wish I knew every single name to put it here. Go, BVI Athletes. Go. Go. Go. Go.

  8. Just keeping it real says:

It seems that America invest more in the Athletes out of the BVI than the BVI itself. Most of you could care less and when the athletes do well on the international stage you all are looking for bragging rights. Same as a father that does not invest or want anything to do with the son and when the son grows up and become famous the father is up in the front row seat grinning his teeth bragging about that is his son. BVI, invest more into your athletes.

    • @Just keeping it real says:

I’m with you on that. The BVI is not doing enough for their local athletes. No proper sports facilities in place, no proper swimming pool in place and the list goes on and on. I agree, the US invest more in the BVI athletes than the BVI. Big shame. If you are looking for bragging rights, do better.
