Government only takes action after Opposition probes, says Alliance
Members of the Opposition Alliance have asserted that the Dr. Natalio Wheatley-led government often acts swiftly to address critical issues only after questions are placed on the Order Paper of the House of Assembly.
Speaking on the Pulse of the People radio show, members of the Alliance claimed this pattern is particularly evident in the sudden repairs of roads across the territory just before a question period is scheduled in the House.
“The road to Paraquita Bay has been closed for quite a long time, and people are forced to traverse Fort Hill, going through Bellevue. And I’m wondering: where is the haste to ensure that the alternate road is repaired while the main road is closed?” questioned Territorial At-Large Representative Stacy ‘Buddha’ Mather.
Mather continued: “I encourage the public to look around. In front of U.P.’s, you’ll see there was some patching. There’s also some movement (patching) down in Sea Cow’s Bay. These things happen around the time when you see members of the Opposition putting questions on the Order Paper.”
Second District Representative Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull echoed Mather’s sentiments, adding that the government continues to fall short on key deliverables, despite repeated questioning by the Opposition.
“What’s additionally troubling is that it’s not for a lack of questions. We’ve asked, for the last three sittings, specifically about the plan for certain things: the plan for financial services, healthcare, infrastructure, and even the $100 million loan. But it seems that unless we prompt it, we don’t get an answer for these items,” Turnbull explained.
While acknowledging that the current administration has inherited several challenges from previous governments, critics continue to voice concern over the handling of the territory’s affairs. They argue that national priorities—such as road repairs and consistent water supply—are being sidelined in favour of international travel, festival funding, and opposition to UK oversight.
With roughly two years remaining in the current political term, the government is urging residents to remain patient, maintaining that it is working diligently to deliver priority projects aimed at significantly improving the quality of life in the territory.

Alliance hasn’t shown that it would be any different from VIP and NDP or PVIM. We already see what NDP did when they were in power: lost 7 million in BVI Airways, Out of Control spending on a wall to Nowhere and Insider Exploitation in Financial Services e.g the Bank of Asia per the published judgements on the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. What does the Alliance stand for? Even they haven’t issued a manifesto with sensible metrics and have already said that they would join the later two parties if the option is there. I think they would be NDP 2.0 if they are in charge.
You should really change your name from
Judah to Judas. You really have the nerve to post about wastage of money when your government is 100 times worse
What happened to the 40M taken social security?
What value the 20 M given to fake farmers and fisherfolk?
What about the funds to Vybz Kartel, music fest and other parties?
What about the lavish spending on trips and government vehicles.
Some of you VIP supporters have no shame whatsoever. What kind of human beings are you?
Never said I was any party. You assume. That makes an a** of you. Ta
@Jabb – have you ever played poker? I doubt is. What freaking manifesto are you on about? That party one trick pony sham went out long ago! A fancy book of promises that are left unfulfilled for decades. Just so you can say ‘ wow, look at all the new fancy things we can be promised but not get delivered’; but it’s a book you want!
Election is (2) years out and he way things are being played out daily around here some may not be eligible and viable come 2027 Election Day! The Alliance are holding the government accountable and this is done through their many questions during HOS. How else would WE the people get information about all the secret deals and happenings? It is not like the incumbents are forth coming with the people!
The Alliance just need to continue to hold firm to principles, values and standards which the current government officials severely lack.
All this fuss for stating what has already been stated by the Alliance. That’s expected. Anyway I believe that S!0wW@nde will call a snap election for a number of reasons. I think Myron thinking the exact same way. Why else leave the door open for Ronnie and Marlon to reconsider their position to join forces. Next time you get a chance ask him whether Alliance is its own party or is still open to joining up with now NDP if they change their minds.
Despite all the noise that Alliance experiment is going nowhere. Elections are won with proper candidates and nobody in their right mind will Join Mitch and Myron. They are both responsible for ripping apart parties on multiple occasions. Do not take my word for it, do your research and see.
Highlighting vIP’s issues is important and the Alliance does good work here. However the work of highlighting VIP’s issues isnt the same as governing hence my first statement above . Until I can read that Alliance can express their vision and values one can only assume the same type of governing especially as two of the three come from the NDP. None as entitled to my vote, they have to earn it
One can only be “Judas” to King, Jesus, God. When last I checked the Alliance were men seeking votes from people like me. Is this God Complex a feature of the culture in which the Alliance wishes to operate? Hmmm
The alliance is in the opposition and they are the ones keeping the public informed and putting pressure on the government to do better. They are doing the best they can from where there are. What else do you expect them to do?
What you should be doing is calling out the current government for their incompetence and reckless spending. Unless of course you’re just one of their supporters who is trying to deflect.
Fortunately I can walk and chew by scrutinizing both. Makes for better analysis. You should try it sometime
This Govt needs to go
Reactive
No national plan
Mather had so much promise when he got elected. Be glad the government is doing some of the things you want. Take credit that you got them to act. Change the spin on how you talk to us. Right now you have to save your seat the other guys are set, stop following them and just be a decent opposition on your own.
Who you think is set will get set. Wait and see!
