Governor to publish first COI review before month end

Governor Daniel Pruce

Governor Daniel Pruce is expected to deliver his first Quarterly Review of the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry  (COI) recommendations later this month.

Governor Pruce was sworn into office at the end of January but has yet to deliver any quarterly reviews on COI reform implementation, as his predecessor, former Governor John Rankin, did.

The Governor told the media that the review would be made publicly available once it was compiled and published at the end of May.

In a scathing critique, former Governor Rankin lambasted the government for its lack of proactive measures in implementing good governance legislation, a situation that had persisted for over two years.

“In my Fourth Quarterly Review, I also called on the government to take proactive steps to bring legislation into force which could be used to better hold officials to account,” Rankin stated. “Namely, a strengthened Integrity in Public Life Act, Whistleblower Act and an amended Register of Interests Act.”

He said it was disappointing to report that this had not yet happened. “Progress has been slow, and the government’s apparent inability or unwillingness to move swiftly to bring the necessary legislation into force is significantly impacting the reform process.”

Before leaving office, Rankin also threatened to seek additional powers from the United Kingdom, which he said was necessary because there had not been sufficient drive and determination across the various ministries and departments to deliver on the agreed-upon COI deadlines.

Several lawmakers, including Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, resisted the Governor’s statement, insisting that the Governor already had all the powers needed to influence the implementation process.

Based on the Premier’s guarantee, if they are not completed by the end of May, surely time has run out and the inevitable must follow.

  4. No To UK says:

Yes to SELF DETERMINATION for the Black Peopl of the Virgin Islands.

UK has their land and nation.

Likewise, Black African descendants and off spring of the enslaved by the UK should and must have their own land also. Only a heartless beast would think otherwise.

Why do you think you are entitled to full and equal human rights, but i am not?

If we keep on down that road of unequalness, injustice and inhumanity, we will end up in a very bad place, and we will die fighting inhumanity.

Therefore, no to UK and yes to full emancipation of the Black Virgin Islander!

in the 21st century, there are still humans of the pale persuation who believes that Black Virgin Islanders are less human and less than they are, and thus, do not have the human right to freedom and the pursuit of justice and his own homeland.

Just look at the comments and thumbs down to those advocationg for self rule, self empowerment and freedon from colonial UK.

A clear indication that racism and neocolonialism still rules many a heart. Sad indeed.

Indeed, we have a lot to fix, but peopleare contented and satisfied at gloating at our imperfections. I find your triple comment attack of the vien.

Truth is, what solutions are you proposing?

What solution are the thumbs down proposing?

Is it enough to show your disdain for emancipation and evolution of the Black man?

Why do you think that the Black man does not or is not entitled to his own freedom, lands and human rights, but the rest of the world’s inhabitants do?
