Gov’t brings new initiative to counter misinformation

The government has launched a new campaign which it said is expected to, among other things, communicate its great achievements to the public.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley yesterday announced the introduction of the Government Business at Its Best initiative which he said is in line with his government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

With many of the recommendations coming from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report either completed or well underway, Dr Wheatley said his government is now setting up structures and practices to ensure that it continues to not only do things right, but to also keep doing things in a better way.

“We are seeking to ensure that the COI implementation framework grows into something deeper and more meaningful as we shift into completion mode,” the Premier told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

He said the new Government Business at Its Best initiative, which was also described as a modern governance approach, is not only aimed at informing and educating stakeholders on the implementation of the recommendations, but is expected to aid in providing necessary information to stakeholders.

The Premier further explained that the initiative’s aim is also to eliminate the spread of any inaccurate, misinformed or misleading perceptions about the work that the government and public officers have been doing to implement the 49 recommendations coming from the COI, the progress that has been made, and the government’s other commitments and achievements.

“Our reporting will henceforth go beyond simply reporting on recommendations completed to communicating our overarching theme, government business at its best, through our 10 key messages,” the Premier shared.

Well who will bring the initiative to counter the misinformation that Government brings? When you listen to some of these press conferences, the misinformation is rampant, but who really can hold them accountable? Hypocrisy at best.

Currently you’re doing absolutely nothing, so it doesn’t matter what you will communicate.

How about actually doing something for you to communicate…..like fixing the infrastructure so that we can have running water & electricity, not to mention a proper health & education system. Human basic needs instead of living like a war ridden country.
Focus on the priorities & stop pulling at straws!!
