Gov’t enters into 3-year lease to house court at Joe’s Hill
The government will be entering into a three-year lease agreement with CADCO Holdings Limited to accommodate the Magistrate’s Court.
Cabinet made this decision during its July 27 meeting.
Recent Cabinet documents indicated that the space could be rented beyond the contracted period as the three-year lease was just “in the first instance”.
“[Cabinet] decided that the Office of the Deputy Governor instruct the Attorney General’s Chambers to vet the lease prepared by the landlord,” the document read.
Meanwhile, during a recent press conference, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley noted that the rented facility is a new building located at the foot of Joe’s Hill. When asked about the cost of renting the building, the Premier said at the time that he did not know the exact figure.
“As it pertains to the Halls of Justice that project is one that we want to get going. Funding was a challenge before, we only had about $4 million available and the project costs about $23 or $24 million. So that’s part of the reason why I travelled to the UK because we wanted to have some discussions about financing our recovery with the United Kingdom government and the Minister for Overseas Territories,” Dr Wheatley said.
“Very soon, we should have something to report about our ability to be able to finance our recovery, which would help us to be able to get the funding necessary to commence the Halls of Justice Programme. It is going to go there, right there at John’s Hole where Eslyn Henley used to be. And we think this is something that will really move forward our judicial system and we are enthusiastic about it moving forward,” the Premier added.

Why is every project the government wants to do is in the millions ? Other countries are outsourcing to cut cost why is it they cannot do that? Or do the project in phases. Please governor please look at these financial maneuvers with a critical eyes.

Who is going to pay for this project, which if they are starting at 23-24 million will end at 35 million at least?
BVI’s population is decreasing, and poverty is increasing. Who owns the building they are moving to and how much is the rent? All this to help Ms Henly?
Who actually owns the buildings leased?
Lesmore’s building would’ve been a better choice because of security concerns

Why not knock the magistrates court down and build a new magistrates court/highcourt? It makes sense for transfer of prisoners from holding cells at the police station. Its daft to have a special needs school next to the police station, a better ambience would be shoreline or rural.
INSTEAD OF BUILDING A STATE OF THE ART ( FARMERS MARKET ) IN THAT LOCATION / LOOK AT WHAT THESE JOKERS ARE DOING ? IF AND WHEN RAIN START TO FALL WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO RUN FOR SHELTER ???? ? THEY CAN BUILD A BUILDING LIKE THE ONE WHERE FLOW WAS AND THAT CAN HOLD A LOT OF GOVERNMENT OFFICES AND THE GROUND FLOOR CAN BE USED FOR THE MARKET ( INSTEAD OF SQUANDERING TAXPAYERS MONEY OVER AND OVER WITHOUT CARE OR CONCERN ?
Ots only taxpayers money so they dont care.
How does a hall of justice cost 23MILLION??
Since we tearing down the school redesign that whole area – move the infant school and put the schools over on the side next to social development and where the library supposed to go – and put the court building next to the Police station – and give the police station some more space. Let’s stop building now for now. This is all the land we have. Let’s make the best use of it.
And the beat goes on and on and on. It appears as if this Unity Government has a stash of unexplained wealth somewhere that e the public don’t know about. It also appears as if the head honcho at RDA don’t know a single thing about economics. Just look at the madness that is going on in this country. When is it going to end. We need leaders with FORESIGHT and not just voices.
Not only Premier, but also Minister of Finance. It’s ridiculous and dumb.
Don’t the government have any land where they can build a building that can house the courts . And other government offices
Don’t mention the Market. I thought they were building beach huts in the middle of town. I hope these are just the outskirt of the market and they will build a proper market nearby. Where will the shopper and the sellers go if there is rain. Never seen such madness, building a couple of small gazebos for a state of the art market. Crazy waste of money.
Have the following to this building the price is greatly over priced.
1. Dentiont center in the building
2. Holding cell to detain individual until movement to the hotel on the hill.
3. All area of justice system in there.
If does not have these aspect to the building they need to go to drawing board again.
He will be quiet for a couple years now. I’m sure he is happy for that h**h money
