Gov’t launches 3-Year development strategy

The Virgin Islands Government has introduced a three-year Medium-Term Development Strategy (MTDevS) alongside its National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP) to guide national progress.

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio Wheatley stated that the strategy is designed to support the NSDP’s implementation.

“The strategy is also expected to foster economic resilience, environmental protection, and social well-being for current and future generations in its focus on sustainable development,” he said.

He emphasised that the plan directly connects the NSDP’s vision with government ministries’ priorities and actions.

“The plan’s implementation is closely integrated with each ministry’s priorities, creating a unified approach to achieving national development objectives,” Wheatley explained.

He added that the MTDevS will guide government actions over a three-year budget cycle, ensuring that national priorities are reflected in resource allocation.

Encouraging public engagement, Wheatley noted that the NSDP serves as the foundation for the Medium-Term Development Strategy, outlining how national development will unfold in the coming years.

During his 2025 budget address, Wheatley highlighted the plan’s significance:

“It acts as a comprehensive blueprint, detailing the strategic projects and investments critical to achieving our six National Development Goals and seventeen key National Outcomes. This alignment ensures that our government expenditure contributes to fiscal stability while advancing our broader vision of sustainability,” he said.
