Gov’t should put fisheries building elsewhere
Territorial At-Large Representative Neville ’Sheep’ Smith said the government should consider putting the planned fisheries building for the Red Bay Fisherman’s Wharf in East End at an alternative location.
The project, which commenced through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, is a part of the greater East End, Fat Hog’s Bay Harbour Development Project.
“I want to bring to the government that we need to maybe think a second building that we are going to build in Red Bay and just put the dock as it is and try to find somewhere else to put this Fisheries building,” Smith said in the House of Assembly (HOA).
Smith said the consideration should be made to allow other persons to ‘try to do something’ at the location as well.
The lawmaker named a resident whom he said has an issue with the dock. Smith futher told fellow legislators that the person should be accommodated.
“I’m saying that because I really feel as if we need to work with the people,” Smith said. “So, it is a controversial thing but I think we need to look at it and see how we can accommodate him in some sort of manner and not just play hardball.”
Smith suggested that Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn would agree with the initiative since it will help to avoid some of the confusion that has been happening in relation to the project.
Former Minister of Natural Resources Vincent Wheatley previously said the Red Bay Fisherman’s Wharf plays a vital role in the territory’s fishing industry as it serves as a fishing hub for the eastern end of Tortola.

On top of the hill? On land you own? Because your friend has influence over you? All good ways of thinking for a VI politician!! When you going to think about the people of the VI not just friends and self?
Typical Hater. Let go of your envy and bitterness and help resolve the issue. You could fall in a future predicament that may need the input of Hon.Smith.
@@BuzzBvi, Neville ‘Sheep’ Smith is all about himself and friends.
I agree with buzz, its next to the government dock, them greedy ferry owners need to find place for them ferry.
@@@@@BuzzBvi
How many years we already waited for this development in East End and now the Sheep thinks Sheperds should follow the Sheep?
I don’t think so.
Carry in with the project in East End.
Problem solved.
Think you will find that @buzzbvi you are the hater as it is never dialogue from you just insults. Try using words and information. Let’s grow this Nation!
And if I did fall in a predicament I would prefer not to have to call in political favors. That is used to often by too many. Rely on the law and doing the right thing.
Political favouritism as a form of control needs to be long gone. That thinking needs a reset!
We will never expand and progress due to so many mental ills, no need to mention them.
For expansion and further economic development some of the water front commerce should be mover to East End. It is only a matter of time before the right minds get behind this and make it a reality.
Development must be the focus, not a reaction to a need.
What happened to the refrigeration, freezers and salt ice makers from the fisheries?
When was the building torn down and why was it not repaired?
What happened to the insurance money?
What if any are the plans for all of the fish that the fisherman who have six million dollars’ worth of new boats and engines are catching?
Transparency is something you should see!
