Greeter Service resumes! BVITB says ‘staffing issue’ caused absence

The BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) has described the absence of its Greeter Service at the Cyril E. King Airport and the Edward Wilmoth Blyden IV Marine Terminal in St Thomas, USVI as a “staffing issue” that it has now resolved.

The Tourist Board gave that indication in a press statement on Monday; days after a BVI News report highlighted concerns about the matter.

“The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission is happy to update the public on the resumption of its USVI Greeter Service at the Cyril E. King Airport, and the Edward Wilmoth Blyden IV Marine Terminal in St Thomas, following a brief staffing issue,” the Tourist Board wrote.

It did not specify what nature or cause of the reported staffing issue but added: “We are happy to welcome our valued guests as we resume daily operations from 12 noon to 5 pm.”

The press statement was accompanied by a photo of a BVITB representative manning its greeting booth at the St Thomas-based airport.

The BVITB confirmed that the role of its USVI greeters is to “create a seamless travel experience” by assisting BVI visitors with their transition from USVI to BVI, answering questions pertaining to the BVI, and providing guidance to BVI visitors on their commute to the territory.

So Pops from VG had to bring this to light for it to get attention eh, pure BS. Someone needs to be fired! You have these officers all over the place from California to Miami. A set up in NY and all doing a disservice to the country working from home.

According to the Minister we have an office in Miami next to Miami International Airport and they dissolve LLC and we don’t have no information on what is going on with the office space but yet we have all these officers working from home.

The best experience a tourist can get is hands on experience. Time to buckle up and send these people back home if they don’t want to work at their stations or let go all of them from Director down.

Let’s get real hard working people out there to promote BVI.

  8. Darky says:

a shame that you still are clueless as to the tourism industry and modern world. Do you even know what those people do in the USA or England? It is called working remotely Ms. Empty Barrel! Not working from home. The entire world works remotely. They are sales people who use the phones to do their job. They set up presentations at Travel Agencies so they sell the BVI to their customers looking for a vacation place. You worked for tourism and still clueless? I hope they don’t pay you that set of money you suit them for and you better do not get back your job. You never did anything but embarrass them and allegedly run up bills that you didn’t pay…. We like train wrecks so your talk show gets a barely passing grade.

  9. Stupid says:

Nobody works hard anymore dummy. Everyone works smartly and remotely in 2023.

  10. Today, yes. Tomorrow? says:

People don’t do what is expected, only what is inspected. TB, please don’t be caught with your pants down again. I hope you have strengthened your oversight of what’s going on with tax payers’ money. Hint…I’m travelling soon and will let you know what I ‘inspect’.

  11. 12 to 5 says:

What a joke! The BVITB greeter in each facility only works 5 hrs. a day!!! Appears BVI visitors travel experiences in STT will be unseemly long this season.

  12. Jah says:

    Well lets review…

A belonger assigned to work a labor provided job. And doesn’t show up for work.

Sums up the BVI work ethic

    Brilliant

  13. Tola says:

Them tourist board at the ports especially pier park and road town just in office all day on phone.

  14. @Cindy says:

Girl you hit the nail on the head. New York got a set and hardly in the office and the rent is out the roof.

Then you got a @stupid saying that they working smart from home and collecting big tourist board check.

I agree to bring them all back here so they can do some work infront the boses.

How the hell you can pay people to work from home in America. They can do the same thing from here with internet. At least they will be here to meet and greet the tourist.

I hope the Premier know about this. Hold the director accountable or give the job to R Skeleton.

Bring home Perla, she have the NY office outdated and dysfunctional and that money can be used elsewhere. Let the young ones take over the marketing.

Let Shonda Maduro take over. Retire the old ones!

  16. Comments... says:

We have a minister of tourism AND a junior minister for tourism. I waiting to hear their comments. By the looks of it, one only have time to sit behind table of blank papers and complain about pulling teeth. I wonder how much teeth had to pull to put a part time greeter there. Waiting to hear their comments.

  17. Simple says:

What’s the payroll tourism board, tourism ministry, etc. ??? None of them sc— can pull for the team?? Staffing issue ? Fkn overpaid bums that none could go over there and maintain. By not manning it, it’s negative marketing impact. Hurting us. Strupes

  18. @ We 3 Kings says:

    1) Why are you calling names?
    2) Is what you’re saying factual? True?
    3) You’re talking about PEOPLE’s reputation
    4) Clearly you don’t know what the NY office does
    5) There’s a difference between Marketing and Sales
    6) Get your facts straight before trying to solicit others to jump on your bandwagon to recruit and spread falsehoods
    7) Let’s be better in 2023

  19. Suzy says:

Perfect example of how broken and dysfunctional ALL these government departments are. How is it possible that two senior managers, making thousands of dollars per month in salary can justify, dealing with and rectifying this matter only when a Facebook story is posted. In the real world they both would be long gone. BS at the highest degree.
Governor and his deputy need to get there act together and do their work.

  20. Smh says:

  21. hmm says:
