Grim weekend! Police probe two fatalities and gunshot wounding

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has launched three major investigations following two deaths and one injury. The incidents, which occurred over the weekend, have prompted the RVIPF to appeal for public assistance.

The first two incidents are related to shootings in Baughers Bay and Road Town. The Baughers Bay shooting, which took place on Saturday night, resulted in a man being hospitalised with gunshot wounds at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital.

The second shooting occurred in Road Town on Sunday morning, where 34-year-old Jareem Todman was shot multiple times and subsequently died.

The third incident involved a man found dead inside an inflatable dinghy near Great Camanoe shortly after 7 am on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Jamal Freeman of Long Look. The police have not disclosed the cause of death or confirmed whether the incident is being treated as a murder. However, they are seeking information from the public regarding this case as well.

The RVIPF urges anyone with information related to any of these incidents to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS) or the RVIPF Intelligence Department at 368-9339.

It strongly appears to me these shootings and deaths (I’ll call them murders) are all related to the narco-trade.

There is an underground of criminality that is gripping this island nation related to illicit drug activities. There is now an unending cycle of violence related to it.

These criminals are so embolden that some even kill in broad day light or in popular open public spaces.

Many young men in our communities have gotten in bed with the devil, and are learning the hard way that their criminality comes at a deadly cost.

These recent victims were all young men, and all those killed or injured in the past similarly were young men.

Something has to be done by those in power to get this problem under control. It is out of control and getting worse.

Our country cannot stand by and let this problem continue to fester because it affects us all in one way or the other, and will eventually destroy the tourism economy of which this country is in large part dependent on.

If unchecked, specifically, there will come a time that this country will be labelled unsafe to travel by other countries which will have a direct negative impact on the economy.

But beyond that the safety of all of us living here is just as important. We need to feel safe in our homes and communities.

The phycological impact of this level of criminality will affect us all if it has not already and our way of life.

There needs to be a comprehensive approach to fighting this problem with this narco-trade. This country cannot continue down this path. Something has to be done now.

Strong leadership is needed to lead us out of this problem. Something has to be done.

Unexplained Wealth Act which is needed URGENTLY! How can a fireman earn enough on that monthly salary to own the properties, boats and other high value assets and raise no suspicions amongst the law enforcement agencies, banks and FIA?!? What are we paying FIA staff for as there never appears to be any tangible benefits derived from that unit?

What about the local vendors who enable these illicit trades by providing goods and services for large cash payments? Vendors supplying building materials for illicit activities?

Zero accountability and zero enforcement. The murders will only continue and escalate.

Pray for the Young Men in the BVI

All these young men dying just like that – some from accidents and incidents, some being gunned down, shot to death, killed on scooters etc.

Then we have an other set of young men sleeping on the street, begging for money and becoming mentally insane from drugs and whatever the cause.

Then we have the other set ending up in prison or involve in criminal activities, some do not want to work and is no benefit to their families, the church, their communities and society as well.

Soon it would not have any man for the young women to married to and young children will be growing up in a fatherless society.

There are more than one hundred plus (100 plus) Unsolved Murders in the British Virgin Islands.
And there will be many more.

And the earth was filled with Violence and every imagination of man’s heart was to do evil continuously – So shall in be in the coming of

The black markets are created by making substances illegal and cracking down on them. Risk & scarcity. Simple economics & history.

When you say something must be done, are you calling for more being strict & spending millions to combat smuggling?

Because that’s what got the crime out of control!!!

Please understand the reason why Germany legalized weed & the reason Switzerland is legalizing cocaine, the reason is because they do not want a black market!!

They do no want the crime & violence that comes with being strict on drugs. Look how smart they are, yet our violence spirals under their original plan.

You can hang people & execute them like the Philippines… sicko government, yet the black market will profit from that risk!

Crime will continue with more profit to traffickers, smugglers and the public users will get squeezed on prices, for some illicit substance should rightly be available by doctor’s prescription!

Many people use substances to cope with their pain or trauma. Some use them to have fun.

It is up to policing & the constant Narco trade argument, whether those people become alcoholics, crack & coke users, opiate addicts or stoners.

If we can not choose one to which those people are allowed besides alcohol then they will cope with whatever they can get their hands on. I rather it not be alcohol but rather them self medicate in a legal cannabis market.

The Caribbean through Bob Marley & the Rastafari movement had the best weed & best propaganda for keeping its people off of chemical substances.

The big sponsors of trafficking and smuggling smile when people talk of crackdown. It means more profit.

Legalizing & regulating all drugs & allowing doctors access to pure products is the ONLY way to stop the black market & stop the smuggling on a wide scale over the long term.

It is about time to do a radical think tank about “something must be done” and what really is a solution rather than crime out of control under our current failed solution of more arrests & calling in the UK.

There’s probably more coke in the UK clubs than in most of the Caribbean.

The president of Columbia called for an end to the drug war in front of the UN, as the prohibition is a catalyst for violence.

Fellow humans, what we behold we become. Some of us feel, that we have arrived, we have worked hard and we are entitled to whatever we want or need. The Creator God is not is not part of our equation.
We have kicked God out of our homes, workplace and even His church. We run behind the greenies and leave our children to be raised by computers and worthless characters and then we wonder why these calamities. Many of us have already sealed our fate and continue to ignore the bible as our Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. Nobody can hold fire in their bosom and not get burnt. Where is our church in all of this degradation? We want same sex marriage, we are messing with our children’s minds, life and the future of the world. And yet we ask as if we haven’t contributed to the lawlessness we are experiencing. We have allowed hatred for outsiders to corrode our minds, hearts and souls. Go back to basics, plant God’s word in our hearts and that of our children and we’ll reap the benefit of His promises. Lazy Pastors, get busy and fulfill the great commission, fellow citizens seek God, this is not playing time. This time to pray counsel and guide our territory aright.
