Gunmen assaulted manager during Leverick Bay robbery

Not any of the actual gunmen or firearm mentioned in the article.

BVI News has received details of the attempted robbery at Leverick Bay Marina, Virgin Gorda on May 26.

It’s understood that the two masked gunmen, dressed in black, entered the restaurant and asked the manager to open a safe, which they believed was holding cash. The manager reportedly refused, saying he was unable to do so.

Due to the unfavourable answer, one of the gunmen reportedly used his weapon to hit the manager in his head several times. It’s unclear how the victim escaped his attackers, but he reportedly managed to hide himself in a bathroom while the men rummaged through the restaurant.

They later fled the scene and the police arrived shortly after. The manager was later taken to the Iris O’Neil Clinic where he received treatment for his injuries.

Our sources say CCTV footage has been helping the police to gather vital evidence on the robbers. They have not been apprehended, but our news centre was told that the cops have information that can assist with the investigations.

The police are urging the public to report all relevant information to the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477 (TIPS) or 1-284-800-8477 for international calls. Persons with information can also contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 868-9339.

The public is also being assured that all information will be kept confidential.

The Leverick Bay Marina is just the latest in a string of local businesses that have been attacked by gunmen. Robbers have attacked jewellery stores on Tortola, traumatising staff and onlookers in the process.

Some say the recent robberies are a reaction to the economic hardships in the community while others believe the criminals are simply carrying out brazen attacks because they know apprehension is often unlikely.

    • Common sense says:

They did not use the main road to get away. They ran up through the bush where there was a getaway bike for the two robbers. Above leverick facing north, there is a small dirt road which they ran up to. Obviously they would not use the ONLY main road.

over 56 years ago no incident such as this ever took place in the british virgin islands. is this a hoax? it this bogus news online. i have never known the royal virgin islands police force to ever have to deal with such incidents for over and more than 56 years ago.

    • Stop complaining, Provide Solutions says:

How about you give 56 solutions as to how you (or our community) can directly contribute to making our Virgin Islands safe again rather than talk sh!t asking if this situation is a hoax. This is very valid news with countless witnesses. Be helpful rather than complain, we all know the Virgin Islands is not as safe as it was 56 bloodclaat years ago, however you haven’t provided one helpful piece of information to prevent this from occurring again.

Why is this always the story?
It was the Poker Run, police should have been present.

  13. Bolly says:

The manager refused to open the safe and is alive to tell the tale. A miracle no less.

  14. @bolly says:

See we are safe not because of the police but because of the disappearing community spirit. security hanging by a thread.

Which is ridiculous. Citizens are unarmed & vulnerable, then say police they can not be everywhere. Its like they are the clean up crew.

Ok with like what 400 officers, then urge the politicians to do something that makes sense. Getting picked off like fish in a barrel when the bandits have no problem getting their illegal firearms is not making sense.
