Guns recovered as police patrols heighten across VI

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has stepped up patrols across the Territory after the escape of two inmates from His Majesty’s Prison and a shooting in Purcell Estate that left one man seriously injured.

Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool confirmed that the police have intensified operations in response to a surge in robberies and the recent prison break involving inmates Jose Almestica and John Burgos.

Over the past 24 hours, officers conducted a series of high-visibility patrols and stop-and-check operations to deter criminal activity and reassure the public. These actions led to the recovery of two firearms and the arrest of three males.

“The RVIPF remains fully engaged in both the ongoing manhunt and in tackling the recent spate of robberies. Our officers are working around the clock to disrupt criminal activity, recover illegal weapons, and ensure that residents feel safe in their communities. We continue to rely on the public’s cooperation as we bring offenders to justice,” Acting Commissioner Vanterpool stated.

Police are continuing the search for Almestica and Burgos, both described as dangerous. Residents are urged not to approach the men if seen, but to contact police immediately at 368-9339, 311, or Crimestoppers at 800-8477.

Authorities also urged the public to remain vigilant, secure homes and vehicles, and avoid leaving keys inside cars. The RVIPF thanked residents for their cooperation and support as officers work to maintain peace and order across communities.

The increased patrols come days after a Spanish-speaking male was shot in Purcell Estate, suffering serious injuries. Police linked the spike in violent incidents, including the prison escape, to broader security risks and said additional measures are being deployed to protect the public.

The RVIPF reiterated its commitment to restoring calm and safety in all districts, as the manhunt and anti-crime operations continue Territory-wide.
