History will praise National Unity Gov’t — Penn

Penn

Health & Social Development Minister Marlon Penn has praised his colleagues in the Government of National Unity, saying history will highlight them as people who stood on good principles and acted in the best interest of the BVI during a difficult time.

The government of National Unity was formed earlier this year in an effort to prevent the United Kingdom from partially suspending the constitution and taking over.

Penn said despite criticisms, his colleagues need to be commended for putting aside their personal political ambitions in favour of saving the BVI from direct rule from the UK.

“Premier, I commend you, sir. My ministerial colleagues — we took up this mantle in a very difficult time. When the history books are written, they will say these five men and women on the front and those on the back benches stood for principle and put aside their personal desires aspirations and did what was in the best interest of this county,” said Penn who received a ministerial post during the formation of the Unity Government. “That’s what the history books will write, not the story that some try to weave.”

While praising his colleagues, Penn cautioned all the members of the House of Assembly to be mindful of their public utterances as the election season draws near. He said leaders should be responsible in their statements as the territory continues to go through turbulent times.

“I implore all of us to be responsible as leaders. I know the silly season is coming up and there is an urge to say things that are not true and to embellish but let’s be truthful to the people. The country has to go in a different direction. We have a responsibility from the foundation from which we’ve placed this country right now,” Penn urged.

This is the best of this guy. The only time anything good happens is when he is in it. Other than that nothing good ever happened. We need him out.

I could not disagree with you more. The constitution was not suspended because of the many external eyes that were on the UK government. The many Caribbean countries that stood up in our defense was the key factor because the UK cannot afford to have their reputation further diminished in the region.
The Unity Government laid down and allow the BVI to be trampled. They allowed all our policies that were helpful to our people to be dismantled. Yes, we needed to make some improvements but not to extend that you cannot help the people of the country. They can’t even get the bushes cut in the country. The Unity Government just wanted jobs and salaries and cars to drive around in. They accepted every criticism in the Report even though they had no proof.
Please also remember that most of the members of the Unity Government were apart of the VIP government that got us in this mess.

Under Marlon administration we saw $8 million gone through the door for planes that never fly. We saw over priced Georgie Hill project. We saw over priced pier park project. We saw mishandling of Irma relief and the business grants. There is so much more but all swept under the rug because he decided to work with the colonial masters to enslave his people so he can be free. Time will tell my boy because we have not forgotten. All you do is bad talk others to keep power.

Interesting take on his government’s failure to do what they promised and agreed to in writing to the UK Government. Spending our money traveling the world, whining about the UK control when all they had to do was what was promised. There has been no move to reduce government expenses, instead proposing a deficit budget to put us even further in debt with zero emphasis on improving the infrastructure and quality of life for anyone other than themselves. A welcome center in Trellis Bay when our roads are impassable, water in non-existent for a lot of the island, illness rates are increasing everywhere west of the non-functioning incinerator, and no one appears to be in charge of Public Works or the roadways would have been cleared months ago on a regular schedule.
This government is a disaster, consisting of people which have never run a successful business nor have any management skills, sycophants of the last Premier who did nothing to stop the wastage of millions of our dollars, instead trying to spin it as helping the people.
Please stop embarrassing yourselves and zip your lips closed!

It was the members of the same unity government except for the two opposition who joined were there with head coach while he did the following:

    1. Raided social security for 40 million
    2. Squandered the stimulus money on cronies who were neither fisherfolk or farmers
    3. Hired 3 barges and paid them 17k per day per barge to secure the borders when the UK Navy was doing it for free
    4. Supported and passed the Greedy Bill
    5. Were in constant arguments and disrespectful banter with the former governor and the UK
    6. Handled the pandemic poorly and nearly caused the closure of many BVI owned businesses
    7. Completely screwed up tourism industry with St. Thomas now ahead of us in the marine industry

And all the other bad decisions that they made. They gave the UK the ammunition to do what they wanted to do all along. How could we praise the same people who put us in the predicament that we are in? They were all there! The Premier Wheatley was the chief cheerleader and spokes man

If he doesn’t get the incinerator fixed, he will blame Carvin

  13. To ISLM says:

Some of you people of the BVI are too ungrateful. I see all our governments help to build the BVI to where it is today as a melting pot of prosperity for many persons from around the world. This created jealousy and sped up the need to portray them as otherwise by the colonial masters. Our system given to us to govern by them will always have the elected officials under a spot light which is needed but the Governor and all under him which has been a failure, always goes unnoticed and void of accountability by the people of the BVI. So they are always seen as saviours but this is far from the truth. In the 21st century the Governor MUST be an elected official also. Then we will see the true colors of all and not assume the true colors of only one set. They are masters at playing with our minds.

  14. @Really says:

Yes, we did remember but remember how much was stolen from Social Security(was it 40M)….So don’t try that ….. Plus the money VIP spend was money loan to NDP……they so didn’t have confidence in themselves….they were afraid to borrow

  15. Logic says:

The NDP bury now! If their leader praising another leader for saving the country then its best the NDP join the Unity Government.

  16. Yes says:

Marlon with the Unity party. Lets go get another term in government.

  17. Increments are Past Due Officials says:

We NEED our INCREMENTS!! This Unity government, the Deputy and Governor, the former NDP and former VIP going back at least fifteen years have all, to this very moment in time, have not paid out one penny of INCREMENTS DUE TO ITS RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS and those not yet retired.

Those retired are the most egregious as they are living on a small fixed income while living with daily increasing food and other costs.

They have been looking forward to receiving the rest of the money they have already worked for the last (8) eight Christmases now, but not a penny they have yet received..

It is criminal that people have executed their job in the work place but cannot get paid for doing so.. Is that not a criminal act being perpetuated by government against its former and current employees?

Come on man!! If better could not be done we would understand and be patient. But all the time done lapse and wasteful spending and the spending on the senators salaries and their retirement packages, it is unfair that we have not been paid after all these years. Simply unfair. It is time to pay us. We work for that money and we need it.
