Hodge named Gatorade Florida Girls Track Player of the Year

Adaejah Hodge.

BVI sprint star Adaejah Hodge has been named the 2022/2023 Gatorade Florida Girls Track & Field Player of the Year.

The 17-year-old athlete was the first to achieve the feat for her high school, Montverde Academy, since Gatorade introduced the honour 38 years ago.

The award recognises not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the track. Hodge has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and will begin her senior year of high school this fall.

This latest accolade distinguishes Hodge as Florida’s best high school girls track & field athlete and makes her a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Player of the Year award, expected to be announced in July.

The 5-foot, 2-inches junior won the national championship in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 22.64 seconds at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor weeks ago.

Hodge’s best 200 time of the season of 22.60 seconds is also ranked No. 2 nationally among girls prep competitors this spring.

The petite phenom is currently ranked No. 3 nationally in the 100m (11.11) with both her 100m and 200m times ranking among the top 10 clockings in girls prep history.

This past winter, she set national high school and World Under-20 indoor records in the 200-metre dash, breaking the tape in 22.33 seconds at New Balance Nationals Indoor.
