Hodge-Smith denies being a glorified City Manager

Junior Minister for Culture & Tourism, Luce Hodge-Smith.

Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism, Luce Hodge-Smith, has rejected the suggestion that she is a glorified city manager, arguing that many of the projects in the Fourth District involve her as the District Representative.

Hodge-Smith appeared at a recent press conference and defended her role in the government, explaining that much of the planning for upcoming projects in the district is being done in the background.

She shared that plans are underway to make the capital city more pedestrian-friendly and to add more green spaces.

“We have three beautiful projects that will be coming on stream at the moment. We are working behind the scenes with getting the paperwork done, getting the planning done, getting the price of the projects costed and then we will be submitting them for tender. But until these things are done, they won’t be pronounced or announced by me,” Hodge-Smith told the media.

The first-term legislator made it clear that she carries out only those tasks assigned by Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley and emphasised that there are others involved in her planning process.

“We won’t leave anybody outside, including the City Manager’s Office, because we’ve had discussions about some of the things that we’re going to be doing in the Fourth District,” Hodge-Smith explained.

Meanwhile, the Junior Minister touted the benefits of music festivals as she supported Premier Wheatley in promoting the upcoming Music Fest.

She emphasised the critical role of collaboration in leveraging opportunities for the BVI’s advancement and highlighted the increasingly competitive tourism market, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hodge-Smith also stressed the importance of innovating the BVI’s unique tourism offerings to stand out. By enhancing and diversifying the territory’s attractions, including the development of cultural experiences and eco-tourism adventures, the BVI aims to not only maintain but increase its appeal to tourists.

Luce I suggest that you go out there and meet and greet the people in your District as you did during Election. Get to know your constituents and their concerns. Engage in Town hall meetings and inform the people on what the government is doing and your progress in attaining the necessary needs of developing the District. Stop waiting on the Premier and his mouth full of words. The people needs to see action and results. You we ere elected by the People not the Premier. Stand up and show up for yourself and make the people proud to call you their representative.

  6. Transparent says:

She will definitely not be re elected next election. She has done nothing since she was elected.Seems like she is a clerk. I was really rooting for her but she is a WEAK WOMAN. She is not built for Politics. What is it exactly that she does? The only thing I can remember about her since she joined Government is the unnecessary trip to the boat show in Morocco on the taxpayers coin. Wonder if she was also in a first class seat and stayed in a 5 star hotel as well. I’m quite sure she did.

  7. Pure Jokes says:

She can’t say or do anything unless the Premier tells her to. She is old enough to be the Premiers mother and she is talking instructions for a little boy.AIN’T THAT SOMETHING.

    • @pure jokes says:

It appears that she can not speak up and answer questions unless she gets the Premier approval. Perfect example, at a press conference she was asked a question and she allow the Premier to answer the question. I would strongly agree she is old enough to be the Premiers mom and she is allowing a child to rule her.

  8. Time for New Blood. says:

I think city managers and planners need to look to the managers and planners of ST. Thomas city and urban development team for advice and recommendations on how best to move forward with Tortola’s own development.

There billions. being spent in this territory yearly and there is no tangibles of what it is being spent on and no accountability thereof.

Think it is time for new blood to occuly those seats of the HOA.

  11. That is exactly what she is says:

A GLORIFIED CITY MANAGER AND CARL DAWSON IS GOING TO TAKE THE HEAT AND BLAME FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO COME UP WITH A PLAN FOR THE FARMERS AND FISHER MEN/WOMEN.

  12. Zoning says:

Why cant we have a plan for Road Town> Get the police office out of Sir Olva George’s square and put the tourist board/shops merchants /fountain back. Use Station Road for the poice/magistrate’s court. Have a nice boardwalk Pier Park to QE2, move the ferries to the Pier. Has anyone any vision?

  13. Easy says:

Say what you want about her. The “Greedy” bill has her back covered. She will walk away with thousands whether she succeeds or not.

  14. Kid says:

I think that her first project needs to be the Queen Elizabeth Park. It’s totally rediculous to have the children’s play area out of commission for so many years. Both the government and National Parks Trust should be embarrassed by this. The head of National Parks Trust needs to be fired over this as it has been going on for way to long
