Hold me to account, D1 Rep says

Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr Karl Dawson

First District Representative Dr Karl Dawson urged constituents to hold him accountable for the promises he made in his manifesto before he was elected.

In his first-year progress report to the district, Dr Dawson acknowledged community challenges but assured residents that dedicated individuals are working to serve their best interests.

Dr Dawson shared various achievements and ongoing efforts he has made since taking office on April 24, 2023. “It has been an enriching year as I have interacted with you and worked to solve current issues that we face in the district and nationally,” he expressed.

The D1 Representative took the opportunity to remind constituents of his commitment to transparency and accountability. “I have been reporting to you throughout the year in district meetings, but you deserve to have an annual report,” Dr Dawson said.

He highlighted several key initiatives, including launching ‘Cultural Thursdays’ to promote local culture and attract tourists, and providing development workshops to support local businesses. Dr Dawson also mentioned infrastructural developments such as the West End Ferry Terminal project, stressing his role in ensuring that community needs are addressed in these large-scale projects.

He also noted that focus has been placed on improving local amenities and services, ensuring that projects like the transformation of the Carrot Bay post office into a multi-purpose facility continue to progress. “Funding has not yet been allocated for this project, but I will continue to advocate for it,” he assured.

Meanwhile, Dr Dawson promised to continue to promote opportunities for development in sports for youth and said he has initiated conversations about hosting a youth basketball tournament in the district.

Dr Dawson, who also serves as the Junior Minister for Agriculture, received much criticism recently for publicly admitting there was no plan to move the agriculture sector forward.

Days after BVI News published his admission, the government held a press conference to announce that plans were underway for the sector.

  4. Mr. Hon. says:

Please call the Engineers from Public Works, if there are any, and have them meet you on Apple Bay Hill and see how Public Works can fix that situation there. You can also have them, Public Works, fix the sea walls from the bridge upwards. Enough was wasted on the 50 feet above that. In other words, Honourable, the poor First District, which they have no idea how poor their representation is since they have been sitting in it for so long, has been suffering a long time. Lots of money spent in the District but has been free money given to individuals and God knows what else. Make a doggone list and see what is needed and because money is tight, see what Goverment Departments, like Public Works and Water and Sewage can help you with.

The young wants to be in charge, but frankly your energy level and love for country is sorely lacking. Hon. Stoutt was not college educated and he would run circles around you jokers.
