Hospital goes ‘minutes’ without power

Technicians were whipped into action at Peebles Hospital today (June 24) when the medical facility’s back-up generator failed to start during a power outage in Road Town, Tortola.

Chief Executive Officer at the state-owned facility, Paula Chester-Cumberbatch, said no equipment was affected during the outage.

Some persons who were at the hospital told BVI News Online that there was no power at the medical facility for more than 30 minutes.

However, Cumerbatch said: “I can’t say [how long], but I don’t think it was that long.”

“Our generator came back on. It took a little while to come back on. Normally, I would count about seven seconds before [it comes on]. So, when I realised it didn’t happen, I immediately called [the technician]. Our technician responded right away and everything was fine and nothing was affected,” added Cumerbatch.
