I am deeply disturbed — Premier on latest murder

Premier Dr D Orlando Smith during a press conference at the Central Administration Complex in Road Town today, February 28.

Gripped with concern about the third recorded murder in the territory since the start of the year, Premier Dr D Orlando Smith called a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to express his outrage.

“I am deeply disturbed. I would like to say to the young men involved: what is happening is not helping them nor their country.”

He further reiterated calls for residents to ‘do the right thing’ and assist police in bringing criminals to justice.

Governor Augustus Jaspert also released a statement on the murder.

He said he was devastated by the news.

“These crimes must stop,” the governor said.

“The Premier, myself, and all law enforcement agencies are implementing a plan to improve security. We need the public to assist us in this plan. Security is everybody’s business,” Governor Jaspert added.

A man’s body was found in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the Brandywine Bay area of Tortola around 1 o’clock Wednesday morning.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

They should have been taking action since last year November when a CHILD and Mr.Penn were mercilessly gunned down. SHAME ON ALL THAT REMAINED SILENT. But I’m sure the blood of that innocent child is on all the hands of those killers on the scooters that night and their lives will be cursed among other things

  2. VI.King says:

Don’t get disturbed get to work. Amend the laws so that criminals stay in jail longer. Adopt a 3 strike policy. More random stop and search.Properly enforce all laws especially scooter riders. If they blatantly disobey the law by not wearing a helmet while easily visible you think they will respect other laws? Take drastic measures go by the hotspots and sit by the criminals. When they eventually move their illicit business places move with them, frustrate the hell out of them. Make the jail a place that nobody want to end up. No entertainment, reduce and restrict visiting hours, Give them manual labor for exercise. Tough times deserve tough measures. You play with puppy long enough they will start to lick your hand.

Disturbed? Is dem allowing this foolishness to happen. Them allowing the guns into the territory, dem allowing people to get away with the BS… Dem and the Police. Meen care wa anyone say. Police know wha the talk is, why they don’t act on the talk? Going sit down and depend on people to come telling iya information before acting instead of investigating EVERY DAM lead there is out there. Look at the comments on here, Vino etc. Start find the IP address to all these people talking foolishness and follow up on them. Don’t let these things go unnoticed, but no if we don’t do the police job for them, it wont get done.
