Jackie Vanterpool appointed as one of two Deputy Commissioners

Royal Virgin Islands Police (RVIPF) now has two Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent Jacqueline Vanterpool is one of them.

The RVIPF announced Vanterpool was appointed on Friday, October 21. She has been acting in the post since 2021.

Vanterpool is well respected in the BVI and has been touted as one of the locals fit to be Police Commissioner. In 2020, she completed the Strategic Command Training in the UK — a programme that is only done for future Commissioners of Police.

The RVIPF also announced that Superintendent St Clair Amory has also been appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police. He had been acting in the post of Assistant Commissioner since 2021.

For the post of Assistant Commissioner, the RVIPF has appointed Pam Trevillion, a former United Kingdom (UK) Superintendent. Trevillion was previously a Superintendent of Devon and Cornwall Police in the UK and had recently served in St Helena in the Falkland Islands and the Isle of Man.

All three will take up their top cop posts in November.

Governor John Rankin said: “I’m delighted that we have appointed three excellent senior officers to these important leadership roles. They each bring a wide range of skills and experience to the RVIPF and will continue to help keep the British Virgin Islands safe and secure.”

The most senior posts in the RVIPF have always been controversial in the BVI as there is a perception that expatriates from the United Kingdom are almost always given preference.

Some residents have long held the view that such high ranking posts should go to highly-skilled and hardworking local police officers who have served with excellence over the years.

While there is a common view that top police posts should be held by BVIslanders, there are still residents who believe policing is better when the Force is led by expatriates because having locals as leaders would fuel crime and corruption.

“ there are still residents who believe policing is better when the Force is led by expatriates because having locals as leaders would fuel crime and corruption.” Lol somewhere the drug dealers are laughing because the great expatriate leaders are too stupid to recognize that their expatriate colleagues on the force loves that dirty US$ especially when converted to millions in their local currency. Our police are the worst. It’s just a job to them, a source of income. They don’t can’t about laws or justice. Think about it why leave your island to fight crime in the BVI when you should love your country more than mine. It’s simple it’s all about the money especially when it’s US$ and that’s what the drug dealers found out decades ago and bought out the force.

Obviously she’s lacking something if she was never given the top cop job. People think that once you’re a local, you are qualified LOL

  5. Wow says:

Was she given one of the positions after … exposed the leaked video which was sanctioned by the COP? This is the height of corruption by the Governor, Premier and the COP. Did she pass the exam? NSC approved a second DCP position to protect the COP. In the past years, COP Morris stated that the force was top heavy and depleted the ranks. Now to protect the COP and the video information we added more post. And you’ll here charging people for corruption.

  6. what money? says:

If that was the case, they would have stayed in there own countries because drug dealers buy people out everywhere.

The local police are just as bad and I’m saying this as a local myself. You cannot expect a country this small to have majority percent of local officers as everyone is related or affiliated in some way. Only then there would be cover ups and whistle blowing.

Bad enough the police cant even do stop and search without people broadcasting it, even up to recently after having two coldblooded murders, people still did this. Suppose they didn’t do this and it actually helped recover weapons used in crimes or drugs etc.

We like to turn a blind eye to a lot of the mess that is associated with the same drug trade around here. The money laundering is evident but MANY local families rely on the income.

Anyway, back to the money….what money? The police in the BVI are very POORLY compensated. It is ridiculous the little dollars these men and women get. Bet if it was more, more locals would apply. They are not all lazy as many see it but across the board they are treated badly.

Bet the compensation the British officers and many undercover detectives get is far more but people turn a blind eye to the unfairness there, while we beat down our own Caribbean brothers and sisters for trying to better themselves while doing an underpaid job that our own locals refuse to do.

I wish all the newly appointed members all the best. Thanking you in advance for your service.

dealt with her and she’s not too smart. Having a V.I. birth certificate does not make onm qualified. if you have to deal with her in an urgent situation that needs intervention she is slow and major in the minor stuff and actually complicating issues rather than resolving. Put her back against the wall and it s hmmm shake-your-head moment

Correct!!!you can’t use one isolated incident to determine her capability. There are many who Jackie Vantetpool is quite capable. You probably one of those who is just jealous. If you can’t speak or write good, keep your mouth shut.

Thee was a recruitment process for 2 ACP, 1 DCP. At the end we have 1ACP and 2DCP’S. WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I was told 1 of the appointed DCP’S WAS promised something. So here goes coruption and dis respect by the COP to the other DCP and the PSC. Was there ever an adverisement for A Second DCP. So a second DCP HIRED BY THE GOVERNOR AND COP WITHOUT A RECRUITMENT PROCESS AND THE PSC. COP need to answer to the tax payers along with the Governor.

  15. Tam says:

Having served in the police there and after 32 years of UK policing I could not leave quickly enough, the level of incompetence is incredible and quite why they continue to rely on ex UK detectives to solve serious crime after having received so much training is just incredible
