JVD terminal reopening for int’l, domestic passengers by year’s end

The Jost Van Dyke Ferry Terminal in Dog Hole is expected to be up and running to welcome guests on the sister island when the territory reopens its borders to visitors in December.

This is according to Premier Andrew Fahie who made the statement while detailing plans of the BVI Ports Authority in the House of Assembly last Thursday.

He said” “The Authority is also making preparations to improve its ferry terminals to better serve residents and visitors alike. The Jost Van Dyke Ferry Terminal will be operational and ready to service both domestic and international passengers by the ending of 2020.”

Project costing

In a previous sitting in the House of Assembly back in February 2020, Premier Fahie said works to the Jost Van Dyke dock was projected to cost more than $250,000.

Works at the port include erecting of foundation walls costing $52,000, electrical and plumbing works for $20,000, roofing at $43,000, among other things.

Works slated for other terminals and jetties

Meanwhile, during Thursday’s address, Premier Fahie also said a number of other ferry terminals and jetties across the territory will also be receiving upgrades and completion works in the not too distant future.

“We will continue work on the West End Ferry Terminal to develop a modern, technologically driven entry port facility to accommodate over 200,000 passengers per year and to provide an entry port that is resilient and which follows international safety and smart standards while providing opportunities for the people of the territory,” he stated.

He added: “Work will be done at the Anegada Setting Point Jetty to develop a facility that is in keeping with international port standards and will facilitate the needs of tourists and residents. This project will enhance the opportunities for residents of Anegada.”

The leader of government business further said there are plans to move forward with the development of the East End/Fat Hog’s Bay Harbour project.

He said this measure will support the marine sector and create an enabling environment for growth as the project will include the development of various facilities and amenities in that community.
