Regional carrier LIAT said it will provide limited operations in and out of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) as well as two other Caribbean countries – Dominica and St Maarten – from today (October 1) until this week Saturday.
It will not carry visitors and personal cargo.
“At this time, LIAT is unable to carry commercial passengers into Dominica and St Maarten. LIAT is now able to take limited passengers into Tortola, BVI,” the airline said.
It further explained: “To enter Tortola, the passenger must be either a resident or citizen of the British Virgin Islands, holder of a valid work permit, or a property owner. Only persons with proof of residency, citizenship or authorisation to enter will be allowed to connect.”
LIAT added that passengers for the flights being offered must have confirmed bookings.
Passengers must comply with the rules regarding carriage of cargo – including dangerous goods, the airline noted.
“LIAT will carry only relief supplies as cargo into these destinations [mentioned earlier]. Relief supplies destined to Tortola and Dominica must be addressed to the government of the BVI and the Commonwealth of Dominica. No personal cargo is being accepted at this time.”
LIAT said its next scheduled update for the BVI, Dominica, and St Maarten will be on October 8.
Its operation has been affected significantly by category 5 hurricanes Irma and Maria – each of which caused widespread destruction throughout some countries in the region. Airports were also closed and commercial flights cancelled.
