Local women awarded by Queen

Two daughters of the soil have been awarded honours on the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honours List.
The local honourees are Lynden Smith and Monica Allen.
A release from the Office of the Governor said Smith was awarded a ‘Most Excellent Order of the British Empire’ (MBE) for services that developed education programmes advocating literacy in the British Virgin Islands.
Allen, on the other hand, was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the BVI community.
While announcing the awards, Governor August Jaspert congratulated the two British Virgin Islands natives.
“They’re well-deserved awards for their long-standing dedication to education and contribution to the community,” Governor Jaspert said.
The Queen’s New Year Honours List recognises individuals for outstanding achievement and service across the UK and the Overseas Territories.

Congratulations to these wonderful ladies of the Virgin Islands. They have worked hard for the development of these Islands. I’m yet to see a gentle giant in the man of the Rt. Hon. Ralph Telford O’Neal (Emeritus)who has also done greatly for the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean NOT been Knighted by Her Majesty the Queen. Please give him his well deservingly award while he is with us.
