Logistician needed to help gov’t with testing, vaccination strategies

Opposition Leader Marlon Penn

The Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, Marlon Penn has called on government to hire a logistics specialist to assist with the rollout of its COVID-19 testing and vaccination strategies.

“This gives us an opportunity now to start to think outside the box. All of us in the territory who have specific skill sets; I think there is a need for a logistician,” Penn said.

He pointed to government’s plans to introduce drive-through testing at the festival village in Road Town and suggested that this might be an ideal situation where a logistician can offer their services.

According to Penn, government needs to be open-minded to accept support coming from the private sector, if necessary; even if the support had to be outsourced from outside of the territory.

Just last week, the Acting CEO of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) said her organisation was hosting discussions with private health facilities about how they can offer assistance to help the territory get through the surge.

In the meantime, the aforementioned drive-through testing facility to be set up at the festival grounds is being done to ease the congestion at the hospital. Coupled with this effort, a tent that was set up at the hospital for travellers, quarantine patients, and other persons scheduled to receive tests will be relocated to the Althea Scatliffe Primary School.

The government has also has established a field hospital at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town. This makeshift facility can house up to 26 patients and is expected to help streamline how health officials deal with new cases that come in for testing at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital.

They need to stop hiring these so called consultants at these exorbitant salaries and hire professionals who can help get us through this pandemic. Like every other week a big paid consultant is put on government’s payroll but it’s not clear what their purpose is. Just throwing money in a s**thole with nothing to show for it. Smfh.

Where can we get the data that our government is using to impose all these public health measures? They seem to be making it up as they go along.

Regretably, some politicians and lay people are behaving very heartless to the unvaccinated segment of the populaption.

You all need to up the vacinnation programme.

    Get more vaccines immediately.

Get vaccines of another brand other than Astra. There are many who do not trust Astra but are willing to accept another vac. That is fact.

Climb dow down off of your self righteous horse, het in the community, do surveys, talk to people. The treating of the unvaccinated as a misfit and dserves to di is pure discrimination.

Too many people and politicians are are behaving as though the free vaccines from thr UK are the wher of it all.

So if you didn’t get it, to bad, lay down and die we don’t care, that’s is the attitude, regretably, that is coming through very loud and clear, and it is a terrible one to be giving to people.

There are Public Health Trained Nurses and Doctors working in the system. The Authorities are by-passing them, not asking for their input or not taking any of their recommendations. If the Minister of Health and the Ministry would only ask the people on the ground for advice, we will not be in our current situation.

As someone who just came in and out of your beautiful country …. I got to say he is totally right.

The level of chaos and inefficiently is unbelievable.
The country is lucky it has some very hard workers who work day and night to do their job but … better planning, better process, better understanding what is important vs not would make everyone life better.

What you are doing today CANNOT scale. Your loyal public seventeenth will not be able to hold.

Leave politics aside and get the experts in.
