Major works start at ESHS; soon commence on VG
Minister of Education Myron Walwyn said the construction of 32 additional classrooms has started at Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) in Road Town, adding that major works will soon commence at Bregado Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda.
“I made a promise to the students of the Elmore Stoutt High School to deliver the 32 additional classrooms that are needed, and the organizational work is being done to provide ESHS with a multi-purpose auditorium, cafeteria, basketball gym, fully renovated and equipped Science labs. and TVET labs,” the minister said.
He gave the reassurance that, in relation to Virgin Gorda, the separation of the secondary and primary divisions at Bregado Flax Educational Centre will become a reality.
Walwyn added: “Work will also commence on additional classrooms at Bregado Flax Educational Centre Secondary very soon, focusing on the separation of the two campuses.”
He indicated that the works being done at both ESHS and Bregado Flax is transformational.
“I am excited about this project because we are well on our way to transforming our two main secondary institutions, which will contribute significantly to the development of our students, by providing a comfortable environment that is conducive to learning.”
The additional classrooms at both public secondary schools became necessary after Government implemented the additional school year (Grade 12).
The classrooms were to be built by September last year, but Walwyn previously explained that the necessary funds were not provided to do the work.
Meanwhile, until the additional classrooms are built, Grade 12 students are being accommodated at the H Lavity Stoutt Community College.
