Malone attempts to dismiss controversy of Flax-Headley candidacy

Marieta Flax-Headley

Territorial At-Large Representative, Carvin Malone, has attempted to dismiss the controversy surrounding the selection of Marieta Flax-Headley as the Virgin Islands Party’s (VIP’s) Second District candidate at its congress held recently.

Labour Minister and current Second District Representative Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull told residents at a Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) rally over the weekend of allegations that former Premier Andrew Fahie called into that VIP congress and convinced Flax-Headley to decide to become a candidate after she had expressed reluctance.

Turnbull further alleged at the time that the call to Flax-Headley suggested that Fahie continued to control the reins of the party, and by extension, decisions made by current VIP Chairman and Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, despite the serious charges Fahie faces in the US.

But Malone, while speaking to Flax-Headley on the VIP Let’s Talk Show earlier this week, described the allegations as merely a ‘family decision’. He then issued a vague assurance that the details will be straightened out at some point.

“It looks as if you’ve made some people mad,” Malone said. “They’re talking all kind of mess about who instructed you and who did this and so forth and I know it was a family decision that you were making and you had to make sure that the people who are closest to you were comfortable with what you’re doing. That is what it was and we’ll have to straighten that out.”

Malone, however, did not deny the allegation that it was the former premier who had called Flax-Headley to convince her to make the critical decision after she was hesitant about becoming a candidate.

Flax-Headley, for her part, did not offer any comment on whether she was contacted by Fahie during the party’s congress or at any other point.

Meanwhile, Fahie is currently awaiting trial in the United States on charges of drug smuggling and money laundering following his shocking arrest at a Miami airport in Florida last year. His trial, along with that of his co-accused, former BVI Ports Authority Managing Director Oleanvine Maynard and her son Kadeem Maynard, is expected to get underway in July, more than a year after the trio’s initial arrest.

  2. Dismiss this ... says:

Why am i seeing a mini cruise ship patrolling our waters day and night. Is this part of the benefit you all gave away to the USVI for free access to our waters for them to be making money while we the people suffer? Why were green flags placed on the polls all over the country. Was it part of the witchcraft that was needed for VIP to win the popularity contest? Why does your party have a convicted felon who served time in Balaam ghut for appropriating and misappropriation of public funds on the VIP candidate list for the 8th? Is this because birds of a feather flock together? Is this because you hoping that the young people do not read and would be too young to know who they are being asked to vote for? Why did your party sign off on 3 more contracts to CSC after the NDP told him no? Is it because you worked out $365,000 was a small price to pay for the compensation package you would get on retirement after you won the popularity contest? Myron raised the facts of the greedy bill. Myron was NOT in the house when it was passed during covid. Myron said that the greedy bill should be put to rest and the NDP party agrees but here you are still trying to justify it by passing blame. I AM SO BORED OF THIS LAME VIP PARTY.

Notably insulting but very troubling that members of Andrew Fahie’s administration is in our faces touting their shameless malarkey. Andrew, the depth of ratchet slime was the head of the VIP,one entity consisting of a composite of Andrew’s slimy actions,,
Each one guilty and just as Andrew. Andrew was bold upfront and in your faces and not one of you even whimpered a signal of alarm. Not one of you is trustworhy. All damaged goods.

This whole BVI Gov machination needs time out. Air out the place. It is putrid and nauseating. The set up is off balance, Nothing, none at all is working or workable. A massive dysfunction of bodies going in circles tripping up and solidifying the brokenness of these Vi. Not one utterance of apology or a hint of regret.
My wish is that an independent Governing body, the UK take the reins for a few years,…pleeeaase and let the dust settle and a newness of ethics and purpose with fresh minds try again to sail the ship.
Right now,we marinating and sinking in a bureaucratic impossibility with no reality.Daily it becomes increasingly bizarre. A tragedy!

  10. Apologize for what says:

Marietta should have some moral compass. If calling out something that is wrong is interpreted as a mad chase for power, something is clearly wrong with your thinking sir/madam. The UK is watching! REMEMBER. Choose Well. INTEGRITY MATTERS!

Carvin stop with the nonsense and innuendos! You cannot deny beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was NOT influenced by a call/message from HC for payback! Ya’ll are not even a shadow of the former VIP party that had more integrity than you all currently have. You guys need to reveal how much public funds were expended for HOA @ Save the Seed! Too much malfeasances and under the table deals have crippled the economy and territory. We need to change this culture of handouts that you guys have created and start back to empower our people! I see none of the people running on VIP that have any sound business acumen and the people at heart.

Sorry Headley but you should’ve stood your ground and not be another blunt tool for the puppet masters behind the scenes pushing you to secure their own personal gains and fake prayers over your head!

  16. NOT A SINGLE VOTE VIP GETTING…. says:

… if they don’t REMOVE THOSE GREEN CLOTHS that’s been said to be associated with the former Premier’s witchcraft!!!!

There is one on the lamppost across from THE NEW VIEW INN that can’t be missed yet it’s still up and one of the candidates for the 4th District flyer now placed on the same lamppost.

There are some on the lampposts on the highway and one up Hope Hill where there was a tragic scooter accident.

Not a single vote VIP getting from me if they keep those green cloths up.
