Xiomara ‘Gia’ Malone of Fast Lane Track Club is now eligible to compete in two disciplines at the CARIFTA Games.

She previously qualified to represent the BVI in the Women’s High Jump at the games this year and has also now made the national 100-metre hurdles team.

She earned a spot on that team after running a qualifying time of 15.11 seconds in the 100m hurdles. She was competing at the Brian Jaeger Elite Classic held in Florida, United States days ago.

That time surpasses the BVI Athletic Association’s qualifying standard of 15.25 seconds.

Meanwhile, other local qualifiers who will represent the BVI at this year’s CARIFTA Games are strongman Djimon Gumbs, Javelin thrower Akira Phillip, 200-metre sprinter Beyonce Defreitas, quarter-miler Akrisa Eristee, and long-jumper Arianna Hayde.

The CARIFTA Games will be held from March 30 to April 2 in The Bahamas.

In other sporting events, the BVI’s Rikkoi Brathwaite and Arianna Hayde will be competing in the Spring Break Classic Track and Field meet in Carolina, Puerto Rico on Friday.
