Malone’s appointment as COI overseer due to cronyism — Rosan
Talk show host Cindy Rosan has posited that Kedrick Malone’s appointment as the overseer of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) implementation process constitutes cronyism.
Cronyism refers to the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority, often without proper regard for their qualifications. Speaking on the Morning Ride radio show yesterday, Rosan said she believes Malone was appointed due to his close affiliation with the Virgin Islands Party.
Rosan also said she believes there were other qualified Virgin Islanders who could have been appointed to oversee the important process.
“My problem is, every time you blink it’s the same, exact person. He has close affiliations to the VIP, can you not look at anybody else? This territory has 30,000 people, why not choose someone that’s totally independent of any of the parties?” Rosan questioned.
Her co-host Queen Don stated: “Maybe they don’t have the knowledge.”
“Yes they do, are you trying to tell me that Kedrick Malone is the most knowledgeable person in the Virgin Islands? There are lots of people they could ask and look to appoint. Ever so often they need contracts and they get contracts and they move on with their lives. Sometimes you don’t see anything coming out of it for the BVI. For me, this reeks of cronyism, and I love Kedrick but that’s what I’m seeing,” Rosan said.
Amid the delays the government experienced in implementing a slew of recommendations handed down by the COI, the UK Overseas Territories Minister, David Rutley advised that an individual be appointed to oversee the final phase of the process.
Malone — a former Permanent Secretary — has done many contracts with the government since exiting the public service.
He recently spearheaded the review of the territory’s Residency and Belonger status-granting processes as well as the government’s new Immigration policy.

He did a decent job with the immigration review so maybe they said this guy seems competent let’s put him on this too? The COI recommendations ‘demands’ are already defined, they have to be completed regardless of what party the person overseeing their completion belongs to. So if you have somebody that already prove that they can see a task like this through to completion and to a certain standard and in a timely manner why not use them? She talking like it have an abundance of competent locals with NO kind of family, personal or political ties to the ruling party.
So what? When will you get bounce to another gossip show?

So she sits here talking about Mr. Malone and hasn’t said why he shouldn’t get the job and who should’ve gotten the job instead. So what is the point of the rant? Is he a local? Yes! Is he competent? Yes! So why shouldn’t he get the job? The reality is no matter who got the job as long as they’re not part of our favorites list she would have an issue.
