Man confesses in court but pleads not guilty
Though admitting to Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards that he attacked another man last December, 38 year-old Great Habour resident Marvin Chinnery pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
He is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and being armed with an offensive weapon.
It is said that police also have a recording of him confessing to at least one of the offences.
He will stand trial on October 16.
It is alleged that, on December 29 last year, the complainant in the case was having a conversation at Great Harbour ferry dock on Jost Van Dyke.
Chinnery reportedly approached and made hostile comments to him.
Further allegations are that he pushed the complainant, causing him to fall.
The court heard that a security officer was whipped into action when Chinnery tried to strike the fallen complainant with a rock.
The security officer reportedly stopped Chinnery from committing the act.
Following a report to the police, Chinnery visited Jost Van Dyke Police Station and participated in an audio interview in relation to the incident.
The court heard that he admitted to pushing the complainant and injuring him.
The accused man, last Friday, told Senior Magistrate Richards that he actually shoved the complainant.
He however claimed that there was no rock involved in the altercation.
Chinnery was granted $40,000 bail, and also ordered to stay away from the complainant.
