Man escapes after cops find guns during VG traffic stop
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force have reported that they found two firearms and several rounds of ammunition during a stop and search exercise on Virgin Gorda last week.
The two guns include a rifle and hand pistol and the cops say a substantial quantity of cannabis was found in the vehicle as well. Two men travelling in the vehicle — 37-year-old Akeem Joseph of St Croix, USVI and 32-year-old Kyreek Gardner of The Valley, Virgin Gorda — were jointly charged with possession of a prohibited firearm.
They were also charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm, two counts of unlawful possession of explosives, unlawful possession of cannabis, and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to supply.
These two men remain in custody until the next available sitting at the Magistrate’s Court.
The police say there was a third occupant of the vehicle that escaped on foot and remains at-large. He is described as five feet tall, dark skin complexion with plaited hair. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a red top, blue jeans, and a gold chain.
Persons with information regarding this incident or anyone who knows the identity of the escapee are asked to call the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477 (TIPS) or overseas at 1-284- 800-8477 with the relevant information or contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
