Marathon reels in over $10K for charities!

Charter boat chefs Hannah Angel and Laura Kurton walked a full marathon while aboard their catamarans last Sunday.

Two female chefs reeled in more than $10,000 for two charitable organisations — including the Family Support Network (FSN) on Tortola — via a marathon held aboard two chartered catamarans in the neighbouring St Thomas, US Virgin Islands on Sunday.

“It was really tough, but we did it. So far we have raised $10,0014,” event organiser Hannah Angel — a chef aboard Ohana of the Regency Yacht Vacations told BVI News on Tuesday.

She along with one other chef Laura Kurton walked a little more than 26 miles on their respective charter vessels on Sunday, April 26.

The duo commenced at 5 am with Kurton completing her marathon in six and a half hours and Angel, completing hers in seven hours and 45 minutes.

Kurton said, persons, can still donate to the cause up to Monday when the PayPal account will be closed.

After the closing, half of the proceeds will be delivered to the FSN and the other half to the Family Resource Centre in St Thomas.

Angel previously told BVI News she became inspired to do the event after seeing a man conclude a social media marathon from his tiny backyard while on lockdown in the United Kingdom.

You set a great example for all those who can and do nothing to help their neighbors. You would think that between the law firms and the big businesses that at least $100k could have been donated to the charities. How sad. Great job ladies and a big thank you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Laura and i have worked on yachts here for years and while we have no charters we thought it was time to give something back. I hope we can make a difference. Thank you for your support. Hannah

It wasnt just “a man” in UK. It was a 100 year old man doing 100 circuits of his quite large yard and raising £27m for the National Health Service. But well done girls.

I got the inspiration from a man in the UK who was running up and down his garden. This was before i had heard of Captain Tom and his amazing effort.
Thank you for your support x
