Mather urged not keep secrets for elected leaders
Talk show host Dameon Percival has urged Territorial At-Large Representative, Stacy ‘Buddha’ Mather, not to be silent or passive throughout his first term as a member of the House of Assembly.
Percival charged the Deputy Speaker to tell the people of any activities or happenings that he may discover that are preventing the territory from moving forward.
“You will get a real understanding of how a lot of things are working in this country, and ain’t working and who is benefitting and why we’re not moving forward,” Percival said while interviewing Mather on a recent airing of the Morning Braff radio show. “My brother, trust me, in the seat you’re sitting you are going to see some documents – because they can’t hide them from you, they have to lay them in the House. I hope the ministers work with you and if they don’t, my advice is to go public.”
Percival said Mather should always remember that he was hired by the people and not a political party.
“Let the people know what you’re trying to do and where there is blockage. Don’t worry about who gets thrown under the bus. These guys have not been held accountable for years because people are afraid to come back to the public,” Percival argued.
In response, Mather said: “Dameon, your words are very much well received.”
Transparency and accountability have been long standing issues in Virgin Islands politics. The Commission of Inquiry also identified this and called for the government to put measures in place to improve these areas. As the government works to improve its systems, elected leaders have vowed to do better in their roles and to deliver better service to the community, which has growing tired of local politics.
In the meantime, Governor John Rankin recently said the government is moving too slow in implementing several good governance measures that were recommended by the Commission of Inquiry. He reminded elected leaders that the measures must be implemented in order for the United Kingdom to lift the Order in Council that could see Britain taking over the territory for at least two years.

Him need to dump poisoness dwarf cindee
Dameion needs to get a job and take his horse out of foreclosure
Whenever this man is employed and on Government nipples you hear from him. Now he can’t land a job so him and the other negative woman are hell bent on destroying the government under the guise of love for the BVI. What has any of these individuals done for the BVI, ever?
The Deputy Speaker is bound by law to honor the confidentiality of ALL matters that he deals with in his office. Anything less is criminal breach of trust.
@anonymous Damien so nuff with himself when NDP was in power they give him a job over taxi and livery that cost them …. When you want to act big pay your bills and live within your means ….He needs to fix himself before he talk about government or any minister because they better off than him.
Dameon should be working. He is at home and is no dunce. He is simply being victimized for speaking up, but he is not learning.
Demon house on foreclosure??? I buying it if it up for bid. LOL
He calling Kye for a job but dead on arrival!
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do [say] nothing.
Stupes!
Bvi has criminals from all over the globe working here and fail to employ their own. Shame on especially Government. A king has no honour in his own country but time is longer than twine!
No one cares how Dameon lives but have sympathy for Peter and Paul from Asia whose horse and saddle they do not know.
Do you think it is a good thing to gloat on someone’s personal unfortunate situation? Come to think about it, it was the same dameon our premier promised his job back; why is dameon even not working? Why is he not working any way. O a crony who we can coerce is on the job. Somebody please ask the minister for communications why dameon was removed from his job. You all only helping and recognizing those who backed you all but want independence. What a mess. The public service is politicized and only the governor and a non-political deputy governor can fix this.
Dear Lord, let’s hope someone reading these comments offers him a job. This( (hardship) can happen to any of us.
Interesting how “he can’t land a job” and the BVI is issuing loads of work permits daily!
I am disgusted with Government for failing to practise what they preach. They are assisting first-time homeowners build homes and providing assistance to persons whose homes were damaged during the hurricanes in 2017 but fail to give this man a job so that he can save his home. Same on especially the 7 district representative, but I do understand how they operate, which is rather disgraceful.
When does confidentiality trump the public’s best interest? For far too long we (the public) have been kept in the dark not knowing what’s really going on in this country.
These guys n gals purposefully and dutifully keep us uninformed until it’s too late. I do hope the opposition keeps the fire turned up and hold these ? accountable and every front. We ain’t RUSSIA and this ain’t Putin’s regime.
