Virgin Islands star athlete Kyron McMaster placed second in a tough men’s 400m hurdles final at the 2023 Galan Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden this past Sunday.

The performance earned McMaster a silver medal in the meet behind a blistering performance from Norway’s Olympic champion and world record holder, Karsten Warholm, who ran a world-leading time of 46.52 seconds just two weeks ago.

Warholm, who ‘ran blind’ in the outside lane en route to the winning time of 47.57 seconds, eclipsed McMaster and Rasmus Magi, who finished in 48.94 seconds and 49.04 seconds, respectively.

The race was run in challenging, wet conditions and faced some level of disturbance as environmental protestors blocked some of the lanes near the end of the track.

Three protesters from A22 Network, who interrupted the Swedish final of “Let’s Dance” on TV4 last month, knelt on the track about 10 metres from the finish line, stretching a banner across six lanes, forcing most of the field to run through it.

The protestors, who sat in lanes six, four and one, did not encumber McMaster or Warholm, however other racers were forced to run through the banner, knocking over the protestors in the process.

McMaster won the Diamond League ahead of Warholm in Zurich, Switzerland nearly five years ago, however, Warholm has since stamped his authority in the event, setting a world record time of 45.94 in the process at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
