Mighty Commendation! Flax-Headley says farewell to ASPS after serving 10 years as Principal

Principal of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School, Marieta Flax-Headley is retiring after ten years at the helm of that educational facility.

Hailing from Virgin Gorda, Flax-Headley served as an educator for more than three decades in various capacities.

“It has been a great ride. It has been an awesome 34 years. There have been highs, and there have been lows, but I will focus only on the highs,” she said on Thursday afternoon after being given the ‘Mighty Commendation’.

According to Kareem-Nelson Hull who delivered the preamble leading up to Flax-Headley receiving the award, “the highest award that you can get at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School is the Mighty Commendation. It is only given to principals normally at this institution, and we have given it to every principal who has served this school, and whether they are dead or alive, we have given it in their honour.”

He continued: “We make history by presenting the Mighty Commendation to Mrs Headley today as the only sitting principal to ever receive this award.”

You made a difference

Graduate of the institution Tyesia Cameron, who assisted in presenting the award, said Principal Headley may be retiring from active service but her legacy, inspiration and standards will continue.

“For giving of yourself as a teacher for years, thank you. For being a lawyer, doctor, Indian and chief, thank you. For going above the call of duty, thank you. For making us as mighty as you are, thank you. It’s often said that teachers and maybe principals don’t make much money, but what you did make while you were here, was a difference. Yes, your presence made a difference!”

The Diamond Estate resident was educated in St Thomas and Jamaica and holds a Master’s degree in Education from the University of the West Indies.

Every government must place its own people in key and vital positions. It is a natural law that the local population must get first preference to all jobs and opportunity where qualified.

However, the so called “Down Island people,” BVIslanders, USVI, America, South America, Europe and Africa, all Black people must stop being prejudicial against each other and unite.

There are a few indivifual bloggers on this site, presumably not Black, that are stoking flames of hatred and division among locals and so called “down island people.”

We must irradicate such ignorance from our mental consciousness, and not allow dividers to plant psychological divisive seeds into our psyche.

At the end of the day, we all have a common enemy and we know who he is.

Wake up, rise up and unite Black people. Stop, if you are Black, falling for such evil.

God is good! I hope they put someone in that position who isn’t bias and believes in opportunities for all.
