Minister blasts property owner for ‘harassing’ VG beachgoers
Following several reports of harassment of beachgoers at a Virgin Gorda-based beach, Natural Resources Minister Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull has issued a public reminder that all beaches in the territory are public.
According to Turnbull, an owner at Little Trunk Bay Estate has created his own rules for beach access.
“It is alleged and reports have been made that he is attempting to restrict access to the beach, harassing beach users by attempting to police their time spent at the beach, using obscenities towards persons who would confront him or ignore him while trying to access the beach, and erected illegal signage to restrict parking,” Turnbull said while speaking in the House of Assembly on Thursday.
He added: “Not only is this behaviour illegal but it propagates attitudes about ownership, race and status that we cannot allow. The people of this territory have rights that we must protect … We do not tolerate discrimination.”
Turnbull said he along with Territorial At-Large Representative Shereen Flax-Charles and Ninth District Representative Vincent Wheatley visited the area recently to address the matter.
Wheatley, who complained recently that some persons trying to privatise beaches in the his constituency, joined with Turnbull to condemn the reported incidents.

So what exactly did you do to address the matter. All the bill passing, why not add one for that offence. Bye!
How about the property owners in the second district. Partner, you think you running atlarge.
Could someone please put this obstinate child to bed please and thanks. Thank you very much.
What about the residents in Cane Garden Bay who have to endure the the smell coming from his uncle’s chicken farm for the last two and a half years? This behavior is also illegal. A public health nuisance. ‘It propagates attitudes,’ if you are a Clyne you do what ever you want.
All that talk and what?
As usual all this guy does is put on a public show with no action taken on the violators. He is a sell out.
Thank you, Minister! The sign is offensive. Could Law Enforcement remove it?
YOU ARE SO RIGHT These so called legislators have no clue what their job is. What is the sense of coming to the house every session talking absolute nonsense. Ask him what he has done to solve the problem. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
They seem to think that their job is to come to the house and talk and that is it.
The people of this territory have rights that we must protect … We do not tolerate discrimination.”
Really, when did discrimination stop in the BVI? As of today it is clear to see and hear!
Send help LORD, what a joke this statement is!
I only let locals on my beach. No expats. They can go elsewhere
Even the other property owners at Little Trunk Bay are complaining about this little hitler.
Maybe those guests we allow to live among us who transgress in this manner need to be reminded of the Mighty Gabby’s calypso, “Jack” that remains as relevant today as it was when it was created.

I don’t have time to listen – what it say
What about Oil Nut Bay, Little Dix, Casey Bay, Eustacia, & Mosquito just to name a few of the others???
and the Cuban coming back?
The Minister is doing his job, smarty. The subject falls directly under his ministerial perview. If he did nothing, then your question would be “where is government”.
I have had numerous encounters with this guy. He posts Private Road signs on public access roads and paddles his kayak up and down Little Trunk beach telling people to get off. He is a sad, pathetic little man. What can the police do?…..or should we take justice into our own hands.
as a private beach in the BVI. ALL the beaches on all the BV islands are public property. Most BVI beaches are only accessible by water(Sandy Cay, Dog islands, etc.) but all beaches on the larger islands must be accessible by foot paths. Parking near the public beach is an entirely different legal matter that does impact beach side land owners. The noisy inept politicians always sidestep this near beach car park problem to avoid losing election votes. The beach car park problem will never be resolved so don’t drive your car to the beach and park it there!!!
What about LDB beach the right of way has been blocked for years now so why Butch/Shereen /Mitch don’t address address same. It’s talking season
Got to get rid of the PALES
Locals should just organize and have a beach day at these places doing this.Send a clear message. There are places in the Caribbean where they can own beaches. This isn’t and never will be one of them.
You don’t have a beach.SMH
Can anyone recall what happened at st Thomas Bay jetty in virgin Gorda back in 1991 with Sudan Posse and The white man from little dix.just a reminder.
