Money for parties, none for pensioners — Walwyn

Sixth District Representative, Myron Walwyn.

Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn slammed the government’s recent supplementary budget allocation, which he argued prioritises government-funded parties over providing much-needed assistance to pensioners in the territory.

Walwyn pointed to several areas where the supplementary budget fell short, including support for farmers, small businesses, and the BVI’s infrastructure, which the government continues to neglect.

However, Walwyn’s most stinging criticism focused on the government’s spending on parties while neglecting the territory’s pensioners who built the BVI.

He pointed out the allocation of over $500,000 for a music festival that reportedly generated no revenue. “Once you hear it come to a party, he gon’ find the money. All you got to say, ‘party’, and he say, ‘me ready to go’,” Walwyn said.

He accused the Premier of holding the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report under his arm ‘like a Bible’, which has restricted his ability to help the territory’s people.

“From Rambo to Scooby Doo”

Walwyn contended that since becoming the territory’s leader, the Premier has transformed from the fiery ‘champion’ he once was. “The Premier now become the Premier and the UK put their finger on him and he come from Rambo to Scoobydoo in no time. Everything is COI, COI, COI and nothing can be done,” Walwyn argued.

Meanwhile, Walwyn criticised the government for underestimating the public service salary increase by a staggering $20 million, leading to a scramble for funds. The shortfall forced the government to prioritise covering the salary increase, condemning other critical programmes, like public assistance for the most vulnerable.

“The reason why the farmers can’t get their money… is because the Premier, who’s the Minister of Finance, underestimated the salary increase by $20 million,” stated Walwyn. “You should have seen us in here, like a set of broke people nickelling and diming, nickelling and diming, taking from Peter to pay Paul.”

Walwyn also slammed the government’s inaction on simplifying the public assistance application process, which he believes is hindering people in need from receiving aid.

“The money is there, yes, but because the systems have become so complicated, we can’t help anybody,” he argued.

The UK wouldn’t want to lock up Natalio because they love having the f**l there so they could have their way. We all know that they couldn’t have their way with Walwyn or even with Andrew so they would do anything to get them out the way. Anybody with sense could see what’s going on.

Making that statement alone should make you feel uncomfortable. It’s almost as if you are ok with the UK just attempting to lock up innocent citizens because they can just because it’s not your turn yet. Remember when you condone this you open the way for you and your family and friends to suffer the same fate. BVI people just don’t learn. Our selfishness is what has us here.

So he must keep quiet and let people continue to get advantage. And he must keep quiet so that the UK don’t lock him up. Whoever wrote that post has to be an imbecile. You don’t deserve the freedom that you have because you seem afraid to express it.

The equations are no more cmplicated decifering them them than they are putting priority on them.

Once a group of peopl was left out of well put together equation, it becomes psychologically unfit to want to change it. Hence, the problem remains.

I am moved that the Hon. Minister didtake note of the last comment of the subject matter, and i commend him for that.

But indeed, the payment to pensioners of their owed outstanding monies is a groosly neglected issue that must be remedied immediately.

The Hon. Premier has demonstrated time and time again, along with all of the other ministers, a very cold and callous heart to that segment of the community.

As, they have very skilfully protected themselves financially from any hardships when they get there wtih their GREEDY BILL THAT THEY REFUSED TO SCRAP, while the restofus will continue to suck salt,

The poor pensioners is suffering bad. I don’t have much but I try to help the pensioner down the road from me that I feel so sorry for with groceries, and other little house hold items that she needs to get through the month. The little bit of scrap money the lady get from the Government every month is a disgrace. But they can find thousands of dollars to sit in first class seats and luxury hotel accommodations.

How much did the pensioners contribute to their pension scheme? Nothing. That is a big problem for a broke government. Which is not to say the pensions are enough to cover today’s living costs. But at least they are getting what they were promised. At the rate things are going, people will be lucky to get even that.

I also try to do the same and I try to help the elderly pensioners as much as I can. I even help an elderly pensioner pay for his Glases because he was wearing the cheap drug store reading Glases that was making his eyesight worse. I don’t understand how they can find thousands of dollars to pay outside artists, parties, travel first class, stay in luxury hotels, side chicks and the list goes on and on but they can’t find money to help the elderly pensioners that have paved the way for their ungrateful non gratitude A..es to be where they are today. Stop treating them like they are throw sways. They deserve much better treatment than that.

This is utter nonsense. I did not hear our elected officials suggesting they take a pay cut to balance the budget. When their salaries were raised to ridiculous amounts, not one of them asked how the budget would balance then. Instead of “taking from peter to pay paul” as his shiny baldness has suggested, he should have volunteer to take a two year pay cut so the fishers and farmers could get their monies as he is so concerned for them. Pure political grandstanding. Sick of him!!!

  15. Grass says:

I agree with Myron but what poor pensioners are you guys talking about? The people that contribute ZERO DOLLARS to a pension but will be paid for life? This nonsense needs to stop. In any developed society pensions are contributory in both private and public sectors. We cannot afford to continue this bullshit in the name of politics. Further you have persons retiring at 45yrs old after putting in 25yrs, start getting their pensions and then they get a job at a statutory body and the clock starts over. Double dipping! Then we call politicians thieves. The biggest criminals in the BVI are the voters. I said it.

When Mike Tyson was locked up for rape he claim he was Muslim to hide and cover up his dirty ways.Donald Trump is running for President to get exempt from going to prison. Andrew Fahie holler the UK and America set him up to keep him from going to prison for his bad deeds.

All you going to hear from him now is independence / self determination talk the U.K. this and the U.K. that and the governor this and the governor that.
