Motorcade preludes major boat show on Saturday

As boat lovers gear up for the third annual staging of the BVI Exquisite Boat Show today (May 27), organisers yesterday treated persons in and around Road Town to a boat-themed motorcade.

Vessels carrying a handful of bikini-clad women were observed being towed from Port Purcell all the way to the back of the Central Administration Complex located in the British Virgin Islands capital.

Patrons in that location were in a festive mood as they drank liquors, chatted, and danced to the vibrant music that was being played at a makeshift DJ booth.

Lead organiser Anthony George said the evening’s affair was merely a teaser for the main event at the Harbour View Marina in East End today.

“It’s a little small preview of what to expect at the BVI Exquiste Boat Show,” George told BVI News. “We lined up the boats right there in the middle of the road; we have a DJ that’s playing little music; [and] we have girls in the boats… It’s just a little happy hour.” he said.

As it relates to the event today, boat owners will go head to head for a chance to win cash prizes as well as the coveted title of ‘Best Looking Boat in the BVI’ for 2017. The overall winner will also receive a 30-second feature on a local television station.

“Today’s show will start at 8am and we’ll end it at 6pm. We have categories ranging from the best interior, best paint job, safest boat, and loudest boat… We’ll have a modelling show and we also have DJs playing music throughout the day,” George said while noting that the highest cash prize in one of the categories is about $2,000.

“We’ll have a VIP section overlooking the entire marina; so you could be up in VIP – unlimited drinks, unlimited foo,” he added.

George said boat owners have until 9:30am today (May 27) to register their vessels for the show.
