Nanny Cay Resort expansion to create over 90 jobs

More than 90 jobs will be created as part of the multi-million-dollar expansion of the Nanny Cay Marina and Resort, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley announced during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project held last Friday.

The marina expansion is the first of three phases in a wider redevelopment of Nanny Cay, representing an investment of between US$30 million and US$40 million to be completed over three years.

“This is more than a construction project. It is a declaration of confidence in our economy, confidence in our people, and confidence in the Virgin Islands as a premier destination for tourism, maritime excellence, and sustainable growth,” Wheatley stated.

The Premier said the project “is expected to generate 91 new jobs and stimulate economic activity across multiple sectors, from taxi operators and tour guides to food vendors, provisioning companies, and marine technicians”.

He also highlighted the inclusion of a Marine Hub in partnership with H Lavity Stoutt Community College, aimed at training young Virgin Islanders in marine repair, sailing, and environmental stewardship. “This ensures that our young people are not merely observers of progress, but active participants and leaders in it,” Wheatley explained.

Biggest investment

Nanny Cay owner Cameron McColl described the development as the biggest investment in the marina’s 25-year history. He said it will help the BVI “leapfrog the growth of other destinations” in the Caribbean and reaffirm the territory’s status as the “centre of boating for the entire Caribbean”.

He added that Nanny Cay will remain “an inclusive marina” that supports local employment, noting that out of more than 120 direct employees, only 20 are work permit holders, thanks to years of investment in marine training for Virgin Islanders.

The first phase includes 112 new boat slips, a state-of-the-art boatyard, and a 200-ton haul-out facility. The expansion will allow the BVI to host larger vessels and regattas such as the BVI Spring Regatta, the 44 Cup, and the Round Tortola Race.

Phases Two and Three will introduce a restaurant village, boutique retail shops, a new event space, a luxury pool, and a beach islet. These additions are expected to expand business opportunities for local entrepreneurs and increase visitor spending across the territory.

Governor Daniel Pruce called the expansion “an exciting new chapter in the development not only of this marina, but also in the story of the British Virgin Islands’ marine sector.” He said the project “will enhance our capacity to host vessels and visitors, create new opportunities for local businesses, and support jobs for people”.

Premier Wheatley concluded by commending the project’s backers for their “vision, commitment and faith in the Virgin Islands,” adding that developments like Nanny Cay “build the future” and will continue to benefit the economy and the people of the Virgin Islands for generations to come.

Look at those jokers posing for things that Nanny Cay do on their own but they have Prospect Reef which belongs to us and can’t get a thing done after being in government for 7 year. I can’t wait for election for us to get rid of these incompetent jokers.

NANNY CAY is a great opportunity for construction and future employment in the BVI community. But Lets be serious for once… the expats who have been involved and contributed to the BVI over the past 25+ years are now taking over. I am an advocate/embrace change, but People like * who manages Nanny Cay should never be in charge of any progress in the BVI. They are a snake and those who know. Know.

Drive into NC recently? They have for years cleaned up, planted and beautified their area. They also let us learn how to swim and sail on their premises.
Embrace progress because the owners and management will keep giving back
