New D9 Action Group will press for development
Residents of the Ninth District are in the process of forming a new action group that will track development in their district and put pressure on the government to ensure centre infrastructure is established in the constituency.
Former At-Large Representative Shereen Flax-Charles will be part of the group and says the aim is to ensure residents have a say in how development occurs in their communities. She also noted that the action group will comprise smaller ones on Virgin Gorda and Anegada.
“I’m going to encourage other districts to do the same. Leaders and advocates in all of the other districts, feel free to reach out. We’re just putting it in place, we’re just starting to form what we feel is necessary to keep the pressure on whoever is in the hot seat,” Flax-Charles told the Morning Show on ZBVI recently.
“It’s a tough job. However, there’s a role we need to play in communities. We need to be the ones to prioritize what needs to be done in a particular district,” Flax-Charles explained.
Though the action group is meant to put pressure on “those in the hot seat”, Flax-Charles said people should note that the group is not “anti-government.”
“We must have advocacy groups throughout the territory. We as a people, we must be vocal, we must be out there and we must be able to speak without fear. But we must be organised. If there’s an issue with the water, let’s not talk about it in a chat or on the radio. Let’s put pen to paper and be organised,” Flax-Charles stated emphatically.
Although the outspoken leader lost her bid in the April 24 general election, Flax-Charles said she will continue to serve her community and the territory as an advocate for the people. She is also a member of the Ronnie-Skelton-led Progressive Virgin Islands Party (PVIM), having ditched the Virgin Islands Party in the lead-up to the election.

How convenient this group was established after she lost her bid for District 9! I wonder if this action group would’ve been established if she had won the D9 seat?? ?
District 9 action group should press for supporting the new elected government.
My message to madam Shereen is to cease from being a sore loser. Support the people’s choice and work with the elected official.
Creating more division amongst the district is a push for destruction.
So if your loss is what is motivating you to push for development, you should be motivated to support the winning district 9 elected official to support all efforts of development in a wholistic manner.
Or just go back to singing calypso.
I hope that this is not a special purpose vehicle for the former House of Assembly At Large Member to sow discord in the Ninth District.
She is the “donkey” of the elections. The dog that looked at his reflection and lost his bone for being greedy. She thought that being against VIP was enough to secure a seat because the waters were rough at the time and public sentiment was anti VIP so she switched sides and lost. With the VIP machine behind her she probably would have gotten Ronnie’s seat.
That is exactly what she says s doing. She is still in her losing feeling and intend to do anything to cause confusion.
I been to the meeting and nothing different to who she really is.
This undermining cloaked as otherwise needs to stop. Shereen did all she could over the past 4yrs to undermine Vincent especially in Anegada. She had bad intentions from the beginning but did not calculate the VIP would out last and outsmart her wicked plots. Wherever she goes she creates confusion and division and hate. The further people stay from this negative entity the better for District 9 and the entire BVI. Let us work together for a change.
Not even that she good at.
So please leave calypso alone cause enough living dead around the place and we don’t need you to raise more dead amongst us.
Just saying
Self centered and need to be monitored very closely….
You committed political suicide now eat your sour grapes and go sit down.
Many comments seem to be shooting the messenger rather than listening to the message. Historically the BVI govt has done what it wants rather than what the people need/want. Hence, a group of organized and informed citizens can have its its place in guiding govt actions and priorities. Such a groupl would also provide a conduit of communication and surely allow people to feel there is a voice for them besides a ballot every few years.
All the VIP losers are searching for relevance. She and Can’t Win can’t just take a seat. And yes she is a VIP loser.
Miss flax go sit ya dusty ms down, we ain wan hear u
