New governor arrives
One day before being sworn in as the new governor of the British Virgin Islands, Augustus Jaspert and his family arrived in the territory to warm greetings from officials.
Premier Dr D Orlando Smith, Leader of the Opposition Andrew Fahie, and Deputy Premier Dr Kedrick Pickering went to the Terrance B International Lettsome International Airport to welcome the governor designate and his family.
Deputy Governor Rosalie Adams was also among the first to greet the new governor, who was accompanied by his wife Millie Jaspert and their sons – Tobias and Oscar.
Other senior officials in attendance were the Permanent Secretary (Acting) in the Office of the Deputy Governor Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, Chief Immigration Officer Geraldine Ritter-Freeman, and Comptroller of Customs Wade Smith.
The governor designate will tomorrow be sworn in as the 13th Governor of the British Virgin Islands at a Swearing-in and Welcome Ceremony at the Virgin Islands Supreme Court.
The public is invited to listen to the live stream of the ceremony on radio station ZBVI or at the Government of the Virgin Islands’ YouTube page at 10:00 a.m.
