New Jost Van Dyke Primary School opens today

The Jost Van Dyke Primary School has been completed and will be officially reopened today, January 18, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new complex.

Officials of the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) announced that keys to the multipurpose educational facility were handed over to the principal earlier this month.

The RDA said the facility offers a safe and inclusive learning environment for students of Jost Van Dyke and credited the school’s completion to effective collaboration between the RDA and the government.

According to the RDA, the facility’s impact extends beyond the school. The Agency said the new complex will bring positive changes to the community and has already created excitement among students, teachers and parents.

Some students of the school were temporarily relocated from the island late last year and placed at the Leonora Delville Primary School on Tortola until construction on the new building had been completed.

The project’s completion date was shifted several times after the contractor reportedly suffered repeated setbacks.

Quality Construction was awarded the contract for the project in August 2022 valued at $4,333,743.86 in what RDA Chief Executive Officer Anthony McMaster described as a competitive bidding process.

The government received six bids – one from St Lucia and five from the Virgin Islands.
