New online payment portal coming for Water & Sewerage

Customers of the Water and Sewerage Department will soon benefit from the launch of an online payment portal, enabling them to pay their bills remotely starting February 1.

Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer made the announcement during a recent sitting of the House of Assembly.

Rymer described the development as a significant milestone in modernising public utilities in the territory. He explained that the new system will provide residents and businesses with a secure and efficient way to manage their utility payments.

“No longer will they need to navigate long queues or cumbersome processes. With just a few clicks, they will be able to access their accounts, view billing information, and make payments from the comfort of their homes or any location with internet access,” Rymer stated.

The portal will offer several key features to improve user experience. Customers can access their accounts anytime, view billing history, and track water usage. Payments can be made via email or the portal, and advanced security measures have been implemented to safeguard customer data.

Acting Director of Water and Sewerage Brian Davis encouraged residents to visit the department to register for the portal by providing an email address. This will allow them to receive bills, receipts, and important updates electronically, ensuring better communication between the department and its customers.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Elvia Smith-Maduro, expressed gratitude to the stakeholders who contributed to the project’s success. She acknowledged the efforts of the Department of Information Technology, Banco Popular, Smarter Commerce, and the 17 individuals who participated in pilot-testing the system.

The introduction of the online payment portal furthers the ministry’s goal of improving public service delivery through technology. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to ensuring reliable and affordable utility services, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and visitors in the Virgin Islands.

The Water and Sewerage Department has faced challenges with outdated infrastructure and inefficiencies in its billing processes in recent years. Implementing the online system marks a significant step towards addressing these issues and modernising the delivery of essential services.
