Persons who have permanently evacuated the territory following the hurricanes have until the end of the month before their overseas coverage from the National Health Insurance (NHI) expires.

This is according to Deputy Director for of the Social Security Board, Roy Barry.

The Social Security Board has responsibility for NHI.

“Persons who relocated, and have no intention of returning to the territory, will have coverage until November 30,” Barry said.

“Beneficiaries who have left the territory on a temporary basis and whose employers are still making contributions on their behalf are still covered by NHI,” he added.

The deputy director made the statement in response to a number of inquiries from persons wanting to get medical attention overseas.

Overseas-based beneficiaries are being told to notify the NHI’s Clinical Unit before using the service abroad.

“If beneficiaries cannot make contact with the Clinical Unit, they should pay the overseas medical provider, then submit claims to NHI,” said the state-owned insurance company.
